Which thermal paste

You don't need Isopropyl to clean the chip.

Just use nail varnish remover, it does the same thing.

Some people will say that it leaves a residue, I would say "I've been using it for about 6 years from Athlon\AthlonXP\A64 dual core\A64 opetons\A64 single core chips no problems at all.

Does a super job I used it to remove the sticky pads that came with my crappy akasa 862 heatsink fan before i got a scythe infinity and thats doin 3.18ghz no problem :)

Use nail varnish remover then use some IPA, you will be surprised how much crap acetone leaves behind.

As for AS5 reducing temps by 5c..I only wish that were true. It is good stuff and is probably one of the best aftermarket thermal greases available but you wouldn't see more the 2c drop in temps top imo and that could simply be down to a better mount.

I personally use Liquid Metal I've noticed an 8-10'c difference between that and AS5. Extra care to apply and only usable on copper heatsinks but its well worth sourcing.

Zalman ZM-STG1 Super Thermal Grease very is very good i think and i have tryed a lot and it comes with an brush easy on and for the remove of old stuff try ArctiClean.

Thats just scary stuff though. Its like the acid blood in aliens. :p

Yeah soz, I should have been more clear. What I meant was, if you haven't got access to pure alcohol then there's nothing to worry about using nail varnish remover. It might not be "ideal" but its not going to cause any problems. The paste you chose is far more important issues, and even thats not really an "issue" as such.

(IMO) ;)

I've tested quite a few thermal pastes, and on an ac freezer pro 64, what i actually found was that the mx-1 was the best.. but only after i had re-applied it :o

Any one tried Shin-Etsu X23-7783D. Heard this stuff is pretty darn good although difficult to apply. Quite expensive and difficult to find in UK.
