Not sure if this is the right forum but here goes...

I have a Medion Blue Media sat nav unit at the moment but its a royal pain to use!! (postcodes not recognised etc etc) so I've been looking around for a replacement....

A mate of mine has a Tomtom GO 300 and I've had a look an it seems just the job!

Trouble is, since I've started looking into these things there seems to be a lot of choice!
Cant get the 300 anymore so it comes down the "ONE", the "ONE XL", the "510" or the "910" models

Anyone got any opinions on these models??

Thanks...

I have the 710 Stevie, which I picked up a package for from a competitor.

Any questions, please ask away. Finds post codes, is also a bluetooth hands free device, can play your mp3's through it, updates on speed cameras and traffic related news and includes a lot of POI's.

Specific questions, please ask away.

I have a refurb 910, no problems with it so far.

Got me to the ring and back without any issues. The MP3 player was handy when I didnt have a stereo installed.

I've got a 710, as I wanted western european mapping (which it includes as standard). Apart from that its exactly the same as a 510.

Really nice, the widescreen is very clear, and the maps are pretty good. Only problem from my perspective is the standard SD card is 1GB, and because of that the 'latest' map update has trimmed out quite a lot of landmarks, rivers etc across europe to squeeze it onto the card.

I ended up buying a 2gig SD card and the full east/west europe map just to get the full detail I wanted.

The 910 is in my opinion a far more future proof piece of hardware because it has an internal hard drive. So no matter how much more detail they add to the maps, it should have plenty of hard disk space to cope.

For a 'UK' only the 510 should be pretty good, as the UK maps are obviously a lot smaller than the Western Europe map.

Overall, the TomTom 510/710/910 are nice, quick at planning routes, easy to use, and I find the speaker is nice and clear. But then I do drive a BMW. In a noiser car it could be different.

I've had the TomTom One for over a year now and can't fault. Nice size screen and you can download speed camera locations from the web.

I have a TomTom Europe too, no issues to report and does everything I'd like it to :)

Very nicely packaged unit and very accurate/responsive!

Thanks for all the feedback guys! :D

Must admit I'm leaning towards the 510 (dont really need the European maps on the 710) but the 910 isnt that much more!
The thing thats put me off the 910 is various reports that the windscreen dock is a bit awkward and the unit itself is quite heavy - anyone had any experience of this (and if the 510 has a different windscreen dock??)

http://www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk/tomtom-go-910-reviews.html

I've looked at the ONE model but I think I'd prefer the "XL" model if I went for it but isnt much cheaper than the 510!!!

The features I most want are:

- Postcode only search (for those times the place you are going to doesnt have a house number)
- Bluetooth hands free would be nice (I understand the 510 comes with the external microphone)
- MP3 player would be nice (although the Tomtom website doesnt list the 510 as having an MP3 player??)

I know the hard disk on the 910 would help future-proof me but I could live with the SD card at the moment - especially if the windscreen dock is a bit dodgy!

Keep the advice coming guys....

The dock is slightly fiddly to get right to start with but you soon get the hang of it, I wouldnt call it a problem. Mine weighs about 350g, it doenst feel like the lightest thing in the world, but I dont intend carrying it round! ;)

Same here , I looked at the other models but they gave me stuff that my phone / car hifi already had :)

Have you considered the Garmins? Much better mapping and the Nuvi's are a lot smaller for carrying around as you don't want to leave it in the motor!

I use the TomToms at work but bought the other half a Garmin Nuvi 360 for £270 in a high street shop!

Works great and with phone is good too :)

I was sat nav shopping today and my main criteria was something that could slip into a pocket after Wednesdays shinanigans.

For that reason the TomTom one would have been my unit of choice but its been a heavy month (Janes car needed new distributor, window cost me just shy of £60 and I'll probably need a pair of tyres soon ish) so I plummed for a Navman F20 for a ton instead.

To be honest I've not really looked at any other brands, I'm so fed up with my pile of crap, I just wanted to get something that was easy to use and reliable - and the Tomtom's fit the bill because I've used a friend's!

Might have a look at them but I think the Tomtom 510 is still the favourite!

What about looking at a PDA, you still get the Tom Tom, but you can do soo much more as well. The prices are quite similar as well. ;)

Ive got TomTom 6 running on my XDA Orbit. Handy that its a phone/PDA/GPs all in one as I couldnt be bothered carrying another unit around with me. Also means its always in my pocket.

I'm not fussed about a PDA to be honest, I've already got a K800i which I like so just want a new, easy to use sat nav for use in the car!

I've seen the 510 model for about £225 delivered or the 910 model for around £260 - anyone know if the extra money is worth it for the 910?
I know its got a hard drive and a few other features but the link in my previous post says the windscreen mount is rubbish - anyone know if the one for the 510 is the same?
Also, does the 510 have MP3 capability? - I've read that it does but the Tomtom website says it is exclusive to the 910!?!?!?

Thanks.....

The 510 can 'remote control' an iPod, but cant play MP3's itself. The 910 can store MP3's on its harddrive and play them directly.

5/7/910 all support bluetooth, and can connect to a bluetooth car and/or headunit for even more options.

I got a Tom Tom One from work, I drive around all over the place all day every day and the only thing it's ever done to me is sent me down a one-way street the wrong way once, and thats with constant use every single day for the last 6 months.

Cant recommend them enough, couldn't do my job without one.

510/710/910 mounts are all the same but not as good as the Original Go mounts (IMO)

TomTom sent me a new mount back along, apparently a batch were sub-standard.

Slight change of direction, decided I dont need the extra features of the 510/710/910 models so I'm looking at the basic ONE V2!

Quick question, does the "ONE" have the option to add other maps (Europe and North America) or am I limited to just the UK maps?

Also, I've heard there are some better UK maps now - any idea if I'd get these buying now?

Thanks...
