Hi all,

I'm looking to pick up a new TomTom for the Mrs. I don't want to spend the earth, which sadly rules out the new 'Go 520' & 'Go 720'.
Cant really go much more than £170ish

I want it to be updatable for free and show speed (safety) cameras.
I have never used Sat-Nav's before so I'm not sure what I should be looking out for.

Cheers,

TheDean

Have a look at the Garmin Nuvi 600T. It can be had for £170 and will do everything you want including downloadable updates for speed cameras. I recently got one and have had no complaints.

I've got a TomTom XL with the UK maps and it's an excellent device. However the speed camera database didn't mark every camera as a year old camera wasn't listed as I sailed past it, thankfully within the speed limit.

Nip over to pocketgpsworld as they have the very latest speed camera database and even locations of the likliest spots you'll see those pesky mobile units too.

I got the TomTom One V3 which comes with version 7 software and UK and Ireland maps. Cost £140 and works great.

I would strongly go against gettin any tomtom. I would go for garmin or any other make. i had a 510 for 3 months then signal didnt work then got it sorted out then again 2 months later the signal went and it couldnt get fixed and bad thing is lost the receipt due to movin house and couldnt get it sent to tomtom. Also my dad bought recently after i got one and as soon as i opened it out the box the signal didnt work had to go through the hassle of sending it back again and sorting it for him. Stay well away!!

We have two (Tomtom [One {V1}] units) and they've both been [pretty] excellent - haven't had (any) problems with [either of] them.

You must be the exception because everyone else loves them.

what about the MyGuide 3100
been reading up on it and thinking of getting it myself
can get it for £90 and supposedly it is better than TomToms

I borrowed my sisters' tomtom1 Europe to got to the 'ring last week and I must say it was excellent. Took a bit of gettign used to the way that it deals with close juctions but on the whole it was good.

I know the tomtom 1 uk used a different set of maps and they are supposed to be inferior, but the Europe version was very good.

I have always borrowed my Brothers Tomtom never let me down, Road was closed one day and it kept saying go down this road, Called my bro up and put road block and found an alternative :D. And it picks up every fixed gatso

if you cant afford the 510 then get the cheapy one for her, she wont notice the difference and will love it (Im a owner of both)

The £99 tomtom one or whatever as long as she doesnt need europe. Only real problem with it is it doesnt do gps speeed but then i dout your mrs needs that
