A little help please in choosing my first tripod for a 20d. I was considering Manfrotto MN728B Digi Compact 3-way Head Tripod for around 80 quid. Can any one give me any advice or other options.

Thanks in advance.

What sort of lenses have you got? If you have some biggies, you want a more sturdy solution. I have a Manfrotto 055BPRO and 141RC head for my 350D, works a treat.

It would be nice if people read the OP, he's looking to spend around £80, not several hundred.

For your budget the Manfrotto Digi range are probably your best bet. Some people get on well with the Velbon range too, but I havent really heard much about these.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Joe and everyone, I dont want to spend a forture but I dont wont a load of junk either.....Manfrotto MN728B Digi Compact 3-way Head seems to me a good starting point for the money I want to spend, also the amount of time it will get used.

Without meaning to hijack, I require a good solid tripod and head for my Minolta system as my cheapy tripod is broken now. My camera and lenses are all a heavy lot since they all have metal construction in common.

I don't want to spend a fortune really...but I'll consider spending a fair bit if it means having something that will last long and happilly support my equipment.

Cheers in advance :)

My advice on tripods is to save and get the best you can justify. I have one of the 055 manfrotto range and the thing is pretty heavy if you have to carry it around trekking all day. I know it's out of your stated price, but my advice is to save for a lighter, more expensive model.

Having said that, my manfrotto is outstanding, it feels like I could hang myself from it. It came with a pan and tilt head, but I keep looking at a ball head to make things a little easier.

Agree with the whole "get one as good as you can afford" thang...

Tripods don't revolutionise overnight, so if you get a decent one and look after it, it'll last you... Well, forever.

The Manfrotto Digi range are very good, my cousin uses one.
However, I would recommend spending a little more and getting a 190 (or variant thereof, 190 pro etc..) and a decent head.

I use a 190 Pro and 460MG head

I have a Gizto Explorer 2220(?)think thats the model number, with a quick release plate with an off centre ball and socket thingy. Its a very heavy and sturdy tripod. Probably cost me around £180 tho. You can move its legs and centre column all over the place so its very handy for low to the ground photography.

I would imagine it would double as a heavy club if chavs come a hunting! :D
