Which tripod...

My Redsnapper RSF-284 & RSH-12 head came to £120, I guess I have to throw that out in the bin now.

If you buy a really cheap tripod, you'll probably end up thinking 'this is crap'. So you'll either end up buying another one or not using the one you bought, ergo you've just wasted your money. £100 is a more reasonable budget.

And I have the RST-283 & RSH-61 Ball Head which i got for <£80 delivered and it's a lovely tripod.

thats closer to £200 then 30.

Not sure how well that ball head is mind u but the tripod is fine. fact is, dont bother with a cheap tripod is what i mean.

cant skimp on both the legs and the ballhead

Wow, this thread took of quick. This forum is normally dead :D

So if I was willing to spend £100 all together or thereabouts don't mind about £20 either way. What should I be looking for?

£120 buys a LOT of tripod for the money. The RSH-12 is a perfectly fine head and has fluid panning. It's heavy but good quality. Their tripods are also very good and their support people are fast to respond and deal with issues directly instead of giving you a ticket number and putting you in a queue.

£200 minimum on a tripod to get a good one is incorrect.

I like the look of that head. What's a good tripod then? :) One of theirs?

I know it's miles outside the OPs budget, but I really like the look of the new 190 series from Manfrotto. I'm going to keep an eye on reviews/reports of the carbon ones to see how they fare.

Depends mate.

not seen any good ones below that imo.

Toss in the fact that a good head will cost nearly £100. That needs to be considered!

The heads you and i got are great and cost over £100. They are by no means top of the line either as there are heads that are far more expensive then what we got.

Ok 150 should be enough for a good quality set.

Not 30 though lol

As i said earlier in the thread i have the:

RST-283 Alloy 3-Section Tripod and RSH-61 Ball Head

I'm using it with a Canon 60D and find this head very stable (only using the 17-85mm kit lens) From what i can see the difference between the two heads is size (Ball Size 25mm, Height 75mm & Ball Diameter 46mm
Height 100mm), max load (5KG & 10KG max load) and of course the weight of the head (Weight 268gms & Weight 670gms).

You'll save a few £'s buying the tripod and head together (From their bundles) and if you head over to the TP forums you can get 10% off :)

Thanks, I think I'll go for the 61 head and then upgrade if I ever need too. What are the TP forums, I'm assuming something like talkphotography.

Just as some feedback. I have the MKC3-H01, and while it's handy for days out because it's small, well built and versatile, the head is a bit of a let down. It sags quite badly after you set it because of the rubber thumb lock, and it isn't great in windy conditions at all. I often wish for sturdier gear when shooting landscapes, but it's fine for misc bits and bobs.
