Currently running some Michelin PS4 on my C30, they are due for a replacement, are they still the best?

I can't get PS5 in my size and looking on Blackcircles, these are the options around the price of the PS4.

PS4 - £140 each (with £40 off for 4) - £130 each
Pirelli P7 Cinturato - £138 each
Continental Premium Contact 6 - £130 each
Bridgestone Turanza T005 £130 each
Goodyear F1 AS6 £137 each

Or "cheap out" options

Goodyear EfficentGrip Performance 2 - £113 each
Hankook Ventus PRime 4 - £112 each
Uniroyal RainSport 5 - £116 each

What does the Motors crowd think? Is PS4 still the best out of this list? Granted so far I got about 20k miles out of a set of PS4 when I rotate them half way.

What size are you looking at? The Goodyear AS6 is ahead of the PS4 in pretty much all areas IMO, especially wear rates. Surprisingly for a Michelin tyre, the PS4 was pretty bad when it came to wear - nothing like the PS4S which somehow manages to go on forever. The PS5 fixed this issue and has much better wear rates apparently.

Turanza are noisy tyres, excellent in the wet, otherwise pretty average though slightly above average for MPG and the low rolling resistance is nice. If it is dusty dry they tend to feel heavy and vague. On heavier cars you'll likely find they develop cracks inside the treads prematurely.

Kumho Ecsta PS71

I put them on my Fiesta ST after PS4's and they were just as good in the wet and dry. £98.95 each on Black circles.

Pretty much in the same category imo
I've only done 4500 miles on mine but they still have as new tread depth. Here's a recent inspection of them.

I do check and adjust my tyre pressures every two weeks if needed.

Ohhh, hmph that's a bit of a rubbish tyre size for performance tyres. Lucky you can get the AS6 - just had a quick look at they're £128ea from F1autocentre and would absolutely be my first choice.
It is but then again, the prices of them are still reasonable...

I am trying to justify to myself that the EfficenctGrip Performance 2 is good enough, seeing I need to fix a lot of things too in order to pass the MOT, looking at a 4 figure bill i think + the tyres. From reviews it seems the EfficenctGrip Performance 2 is better than the PS4 now in all the ratings (on

4 fitted Efficency Performance is £423, 4 AS6 is £560.

p.s. the nearest garage that is on F1autocentre is 50miles round trip away.

They are "good enough" in that they aren't ditch finders (and indeed are the one of the best tyres you can fit in certain sizes e.g. where UHP aren't available), but the Effi grip Performance 2 are just a "touring tyre" rather than a "Ultra High Performance tyre".
Both the AS6 and PS4 will be better, but by how much will be difficult to quantify, as being different segments of tyre they are rarely tested against each other.

I am still waiting for the quote from the Garage, I guess it depends how much that is will decide which one I go for, I really want the AS6 but also, i don't have unlimited budget so might have to settle if the bill to fix the car is on the higher side....

Better than his “cheap out” options though surely.
Unlikely.

Not like you could tell the difference between anything on a Smart anyway :p

The Hankook Ventus Prime 3 was a great tyre and the 4 seems to be reviewed well. The Goodyear look good also.

If it was my money If go for the Asy 6, the Hankook are not quite good value enough to ignore the Asy 6.

I would avoid Pirelli P7 Cinturato - Even if they were cheaper than your other options.

I had them on my Audi A3 and found them to offer very low grip in cold, damp and wet weather compared to other tyres I have driven on.

Perhaps some bad driving contributed but had a few scary moments on them in situations where other tyres would have looked after me more.

Yea I used those efficient grip performance tyres before and as said above I thought they were decent.

Admittedly I use PS4's now, which are a bit better.

My only criticism of PS4s is they are no good below a certain temperature, like 4c maybe, but then this is the same for more or less every tyre, but it feels like they get a bit worse.
