Which US city?

Me and a friend wish to get away for a bit, do a bit of drinking and random tourist stuff along with a trip to a firearm range or two..

So just wondering which US city would be best to go to?

I know its a little random and hard as not after anything in particular but hey were easy!!

Lastly if the person going with me is ~17 would it be much of an issue with general day to day stuff and how old do you have to be to drink?

21 to drink, if he doesnt look 21 he will get asked for ID everywhere. If he looks older he probably will anyway. Vegas or New York

She gets ID for fags so not a chance then. NY seems quite reasonably priced £500 for flights and hotel each for a week.

Yeah but issue is she doesnt want to go anywhere that doesnt speak English.. I dont care I just need to get away for a bit..

You are talking a 17 year old away, hmm, if she cant get cigs in this country she has no hope in getting alcohol in America even with fake ID

In most counteries people speak english or can at least understand it. Or is she going to go to NY and talk to strangers on the streets. good luck with that!

not sure what you mean by 'general day to day stuff', but getting her a drink at a bar will be impossible, much better to go to a liquor store and have a few before you head out.
just let her have a few sips in the bar

every big city in the US is different, it's really hard to compare.
i really enjoyed miami and the weather is almost always great. i think there are some charter airlines that fly there so you should be able to get some decent rates

NYC is cool, but it's really brash and in your face, whereas miami [beach] is full of beautiful people lazing about and showing off

if you can find a cracking deal, fly out to California. fly into San Francisco and out of LA, driving down the Highway 1 coastal road, it's fantastic with some good stuff to see on the way..

Ibiza. It has touristy stuff to do in the day, waterparks, go karts and loads of other stuff. English speaking people. Save on the flights for spending money

I hear the nightlife is pretty good too

If you look vaugely younger than 25 you will continually get ID'd everywhere.

I thought it depends on states?

Drinking age is 21 everywhere in the states. Theoretically, states are allowed to set it independently but any state that sets it below 21 has their highway funding removed!

Canada generally has a lower drinking age but I'd still expect her to get IDed everywhere.

canada is even more strict than the US, one bar wouldn't take a photocopy of my GB passport, a norwegian visa card (with picture and DOB on the back), nor an EU driving licence as ID.
the limit in ON is 19 and i was 21!

when we went to canada when i was younger, we couldn't get upgraded in the hotel as it had an open bar on the executive floor and it would have been illegal for me to stay on that floor :confused:

having said that, toronto and vancouver are really nice.

I want to get away for a while only person who coul possibly go with me who can get time off work is her. Nothing dodgy is going on but it doesnt look that way.
