Hi.
First things first, im trying my hardest not to have to do the following, this is plan B incase it plan A doesnt work. :p

Anyway.
In the evantuality that i'll have to re-install windows, im wondering which version should i install? I have the choice between:
--XP Home.
--XP Professional.
--XP 64bit.
--Vista Business 32bit.
--Vista Business 64bit.

Afaik, in regards to Vista & XP64, my only two essential apps that might not work, are iTunes and Ultramon.

My essential apps are:
Office 2007, specifically Outlook.
Opera.
Firefox.
Azureus.
Windows Live Messenger.
Nero.
SpeedFan. (Temperature and S.M.A.R.T Monitoring).
SharpKeys (To use the extra keys on my keyboard for specific uses).
Various codecs (FFDshow, Ogg Filter, AC3 Filter, Flac, Vodei Video).

System Specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+.
Abit AN8 Ultra.
2Gb GeIL Value PC3200 CAS 2.5 (4x512Mb).
Connect 3D Radeon X800XL 256Mb PCI-E.
250Gb Hitachi SATA2.
2x250Gb Samsung SATA2.
Lite-On 16x DVD.
Lite-On 8x DVDRW.
2x Dell 2407 24” TFTs.
Antec NeoHE 500W.
Logitech MX1000 Wireless Laser Mouse.
Apple ProUSB Keyboard
Onboard AudioMax 7.1, outputs to Cambridge Audio AV Receiver & Surround Speakers.

Questions though:
--Which should i go for and why?
--Is all my hardware compatible with the version that you suggest?
--Is all my essential software compatible?
--Will it run well on my hardware?
--If Vista was used, could i use the interface in it to upgrade it to Ultimate with my money, even though the original key is a volume licencing one (dont start accusing, im legally entitled to use any and all software under the licencing agreement).

RIght - I can confirm that Firefox, Azureus,Windows Live Messenger, Nero & SpeedFan all work in Vista x64. I also know there have been issues with iTunes - So you will have to check that out. Codecs are also another issue you will have to look into if going for Vista x64

What exactely is the iTunes problem anyway?

Because i was running iTunes on Vista RC2 for ages on my laptop without fault?

I've never had one issue running Itunes on x64 vista.
It runs like a bag of poop on mine when i had it running, all for about 5 minutes then uninstalled, it was really slow!!

I have had a few graphical corruption issues with Itunes on Home Prem 32, but other than those, everything seems fine since the 7.1 update a few days ago

Does anyone have any idea on the licencing thing? If i install my work copy of Business then upgrade it to Ultimate myself, what will happen/is it possible?
