Which viewpoint do you use in racing games and why?

For arcade titles like TDU and NFS MW, I tend to use the far chase cam, but for more serious racing I always use the bumper cam.

Like a few others here, for me it depends on if the racing game is arcadey or a simulation.

Arcade style, I would go either way, especially since it doesn't really matter and some games are always fixed/limited to third person chase camera anyways.

Simulations are a no brainer, cockpit or bonnet view. Though if I had to pick only one out of the two, I go bonnet because I want to see more.

Always cockpit if it's available, if that's not available then bonnet cam, and if that's not available then I use bumper cam.

I cannot stand any kind of chase cam, I hate even watching people use chase cam.

people spank themselves off over how great the latest car game looks, "OMG no jaggies on the cars window pillars" then race in car.

I like to see the cars that these developers have spent months designing.

That's what replays are for.

Exactly, your reacting to things after they have happened when using the chase cam! Amazes me how people play like this :o

Bumper cam. With TDU I found that I can't control the car properly if I use a follow cam/cockpit cam or bonnet cam. No idea why but I just can't do it that way. :p I do the same with GT5 and F1 2010.

Always use bonnet cam. Although in PGR2 I had to use the Chase cam as the bonnet cam was too low. Strangely I was up there with the quickest in the world.

Cockpit always. If no cockpit then bonnet. Never outside (I get really annoyed when watching demos of games I want to see and they're using ext view) unless it's Mario Kart or something!

If I can I like to turn all visual aids off so that it's just me, in a car with manual gears, a wheel to steer with and mirrors and sound to see and hear what's going on around me.

The only time I've ever used external (apart from Mario Kart, Diddy Kong etc) was for Wipeout...as the internal view is just insane...and technically it isn't driving anyway :p

GT - Cockpit view
F1 - Airbox view / TV
GTA - Follow view

I prefer to use the cockpit view when possible, as I can line up the corners better, but cockpit cam in F1 2010 is seriously low + the speed = brain implosion.

Any games with a generic driving component, such as GTA then follow cam is better to avoid the cops / awe at the handbrake turns :D

if there is one, then the in-car view with wheel, dashboard, windscreen, etc. feels better for me, especially the sense of speed. ;)
