Which voice would you choose?

yes, seriously, and his voice has been the soundtrack to many a great film, game and tv series.

Okay, I won't argue about it, I accept your view, but I don't often watch movies unless I'm interested in the subject matter, NEVER watch game shows, but have watched a few TV series, although if his voice has been on the soundtrack I must have missed it.
It must be his Northern accent that puts me off then, apologies to Northerners, but if I'm channel surfing, and accidentally land on "Sharpe", I just can't "see" an officer with his accent, which doesn't mean that officers should only be Oxbridge berks.
Were I in the army, and someone with Bean's accent ordered, "Ay oop lads, on mah command, over t'top", I'd be inclined to think, "Yeah, right."

I meant video games, specifically oblivion

And the whole core premise of sharpe was that he was "raised from the ranks" so of course he wasn't meant to sound like a proper officer :D

Okay, now Sharpe becomes clearer, and infinitely more understandable, (to me), but at the extreme risk of sinking deeper into the mire, I'm afraid that I'm generationally challenged when it comes to video games, if asked about them I'd be inclined to use the same flippant throwaway line I use about Facebook, "What am I, 12?"
My elder son is the same, but I know his son, my elder German grandson plays them, as does my younger son, and his son and daughter, my English grandchildren.

Can I ask how someone without even a passing interest in video games came to sign up to a PC overclocking forum? Are you overclocking your PC to get higher framerates in Excel? :p

short version is he's the voice of martin septim in oblivion, with his father voiced by patrick stewart. which means the intro to the game is just so many levels of awesome.

Can I ask how someone without evening a passing interest in video games came to sign up to a PC overcloking forum? Are you overcloking your PC to get higher framerates in Excel? :p

:D :D :D :D

although tbf, i have had issues with excel's calculation speed in the past

You wouldn't think that perhaps someone with that kind of accent (let alone those manners and all the rest) has become an officer for a bloody compelling reason... and probably knows best?

Nah, his general speaking/narration voice is actually quite good. He got a job doing all the O2 phone adverts. If it's just the accent that bothers you, pick any role where he puts on a bit of posh, like Boromir or Alec Trevelyan.

Sure you can, I think I accidentally came across the overclockers Forum while surfing the net, and noticed that G.D. was just that, General Discussion, so after reading some of the threads, I thought that I’d register, and chip my two cents in if any of the threads were of interest to me.
I’m afraid that your last line, which I assume should read, ‘to get higher frame rates in Excel’, might as well have been written in Serbo-Croat for all it means to me, sorry.

Boromir :(

He kinda deserved it, though.... mainly for slipping back into a Sheffield accent whenever he shouted on about meaking fer tha gap o' Rohan!!

Theres a youtube video of how Boromir was shafted from the beginning by his "buddies" in the fellowship. He was setup to be the fall guy from the beginning....they dont trust him....he doesn't get a present from the Galadriel...he is sly, sinister, breaks the fellowship.. etc. How can you break something when he was never accepted by them from the start? I hate the way he is portrayed in the film. And Aragorn is very condescending to him...almost as if he is embarrassed by somebody being there to remind him of his legacy and duty to HIS people... Only Boromir's death will satisfy them...in life he was not accepted by the rest of the fellowship but in death...they do accept him... very sad. :(

I wish Morgan Freeman would do a load more narration. Absolutely love listening to him.

As for Boromir - it was the red shirt. He was doomed from the outset.

"In whom will you place your trust? My people are leaving these shores. The dwarves hide in their caves... Men? Men are weak. I was there, Gandalf. I was there the day the strength of men failed".

Isildur failed. Aragorn is his heir, yet even though he is Dunedain, he still questions his own strength.
By comparison, Boromir doesn't even have that kind of history. From the very moment he sees The Ring, he takes on a nasty, devious sort of look... and Aragorn notices this during the Council of Elrond. Boromir then goes on about using The Ring for his own ends and doesn't like being told that it's physically impossible, keeps trying to take it off Frodo, keeps feeling it call to him, etc etc. He's not strong enough. He is a threat... so yeah, Aragorn isn't especially chummy with him.

Speaking of Elrond, I could probably enjoy Hugo Weaving's voice.... Mis-terrrrr And-errrr-sunnnnnnn!!
