Which way up

when installing an HDD they norm end up silver side up

i got 6 HDDs next to me server that are just on there side been like that for long time (need to put my server into an case :) )

I never even considered there might be a problem putting them in upside down or something. Think the screw holes on HDDs and bays steer you to putting them in silver side up somehow, but I don't really know..
Looking at my Antec p182 I think I can confirm it doesn't matter - the case is laid out so the four HDDs in the bottom tray are oriented perpendicular to the two in the middle tray. So however the case is oriented, a minimum of two HDDs will not be 'upright', and they wouldn't have done that if it mattered.

It's for heat dissipation (plate direction). If you don't care that your drives run a little hotter then you can mount them any way you want as long as they're horizontal or perpendicular.

Yeah I've never had a problem with mounting them any which way - usually it's down to what case and what other hardware is going in as to which way they end up!
