Which wheel would you recommend?

Thanks for the help everyone, I ended up going with a DFGT from the MM, if I'm still using it in 6 months maybe I'll upgrade to a T500.

theres a dfgt for 37 quid in mm :) thats a steal even in a year or two you would get that back.

For me - buying a wheel was like buying a first guitar. If the guitar is rubbish, the sound will be rubbish (regardless of skill) which can be demotivating if you're learning.

I tried the G27. I didn't get on with it. I found it to be plasticky. I didn't get the satisfactory feeling when switching gears. It felt very mechanical.

Sidenote: I know that the G27 is very popular. This is just a personal opinion.

I returned the G27. A few months later - I had another itch for a good wheel. Was about to buy the G27 again. I thought that maybe I didn't give it enough time or the manner in which I set it up wasn't great etc.

Found a good deal on a T500rs, manual gear shift and pedals, and a wheelpro stand. The difference is astonishing. Brings racing sims to life. The quality is solid. The gearshift is fantastic. The force feedback is much more realistic than the G27. All in all, a good wheel setup.

Now that I can't blame the wheel for my racing performance, I'm presently working on the 'skill' part.. I have a ways to go..

Also - you can purchase additional wheels that you can swap out with the larger standard wheel that comes with the T500rs (should you want to) e.g. the ferrari wheel which is smaller or the F1 wheel if you play F1 games.. I'm quite happy with the standard wheel tbh

That said - I did prefer the size of the G27. But this was significantly superseded by the better ffb from the t500

how much better is the 500rs wheel over the g25 ? i found the shifter to be miles ahead compared to the g25 but that was always the weak spot of the kit.

Thanks rixx, I think if/when I do upgrade the T500 is what I'll get (possibly with a TH8A and some sort of stand).

Also is it just the FFB that was quiet, or did you find the fan to be noisy at all? This was one of my main worries about getting it, but theres conflicting reports if it actually is that noisy.

I can't comment on its comparison to the G25. But to the G27, the 500rs - in my view - is in a different league. Miles ahead.

You certainly hear the fan if you mute the game. However, I have never once heard the fan running when playing the game via speakers (and not extremely loud at that). You obviously won't hear anything when wearing headphones.

The noise level I guess is subjective loud to one quiet to another. I am quite fussy though - and I think the performance/experience outweighs any sound that the fan makes. The G27 was just clunky. Plus you heard constant crunching of the cogs. As a result the FFB wasn't as good either.. The 500rs has superb FFB feel

Bump.

After the advice from this thread, getting a DFGT and doing a ton of reading I'm now ready to upgrade. The only problem is Thrustmaster's new direct drive wheel looks very promising, although potentially expensive and a few months away.

Would you recommend getting a T500 now, or is the new stuff likely to be better enough to be worth waiting for (difficult question I know)?

Thanks

Direct drive would be a big upgrade.
Depends on your budget and whether you have something solid to mount it to tbh.

T300/T500 would be a good upgrade to your DFGT, but the if the above is all good, then you might as well wait.

We really dont know enough. If it's direct drive, it's likely going to be well into the £500+ price segment, so it depends on what your budget looks like.

Even if you want to go T500, if you add on the shifter, which I imagine you would want to if you're going to get something nice like a T500, you're still looking at around £450 altogether.

You can do T300RS + T3PA Pro's + TH8A shifter for about £400, though. T3PA Pro's are basically the T500 pedals, so you're essentially spending about £50 less for the wheel difference. T500 has stronger FFB, but most seem to think the T300 has more detailed FFB and isn't considered the 'inferior' wheel by any means, despite naming scheme suggesting it would be. Plus T300RS has paddles that rotate with the wheel, while T500 has fixed paddles, which I dont think many people like that much. You could also shave off another £30-40 if you want just the regular T3PA pedals that lack the metal construction and inverted capability but are otherwise identical to the Pro/T500 pedals.

If you'd be interested in a £500+ wheel setup(it could easily be a good bit more than that, too) and aren't in any hurry, certainly wait to see what Thrustmaster has up its sleeve. Or you could always look at some of the higher end Fanatec stuff, too.

Lots of options, for better or worse.
