basically if i change the ram and mobo to cheaper models i can use the saved money to get a better graphics card wheather this is the right thing to do or not is the question? both running an e6600 on air, planning on overclocking as much as i can!

1st setup:

Asus STRIKER EXTREME 680I SLI Socket 775 onboard Audio ATX

Corsair 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400 (TWIN2X2048-6400C4D) DOMINATOR

EVGA 8800GTS 640MB KO ACS3 Dual DVI HDTV PCI-E

2nd setup:

Asus COMMANDO P965 Socket 775 Onboard Audio ATX

OCZ 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 CL 4-4-4-15 PLATINUM XTC with LIFETIME WARRANTY

EVGA 8800GTX 768MB GDDR3 384bit Dual DVI PCI-E

the money saved by setup 2 compared to setup 1 allows me to upgrade to a GTX instead of a GTS, but i really like the nvidia board as the intel ones designed for ati cards

Out of those 2 specs? The 2nd one.

To be honest, I think you're overspending on the motherboard. I'd get a DS3, P5N-E or P5B and save the money. You'll still get a massive overclock. :)

sigh theres so many to choose from.....

Yeah I know, it can be difficult sometimes.

Put it this way: what extra features of the Commando or the Striker were making you chose them over a cheaper board?

Personally I'd go for a P5B. Typical Asus stability and reliability with some great overclocking potential.

well the striker seems designed for an nvidia card also seems like it will overclock well and has loads of software and stuff

but i think at the end of the day i think it simple comes down to the fact that i have an nvidia board and you know how people who own amd stick with amd i think its the same

at the end of the day if theres a better product id go for it i was originally going to go for a 965 but all the reviews pointed towards nforce 6 sseries baords

i know i want decent onbaord sound, excellecnt overclocking, stability, 6 sata 2 ports as i like my hard drivers, raid

£223.24 LOL....What they trying to catch up with graphic card prices these days....

Go for a cheaper motherboard and 8800gtx,,as no motherboard is going make a 8800gts be able to do the same framerates as a 8800gtx...

If its an asus board and you want to save some cash either gofor a p5b or a p5n-e, both overclock very well. As for the gts/gtx decision is a bit harder and has been talked about quite a bit on the graphics board. At 1600x1200 with aa and af the gtx has a big lead over the gts as you can see here.
Will also give you more headroom in the future with more graphically demanding games coming out. If that is wrth the extra cash to you do it :)
