Hi guys, Looking at ordering some kit tomorro, For my new system

Going for the core i7 920 ..

Which motherboard should i go for, either the

Asus P6T Deluxe Intel X58
OR
Foxconn Renaissance Intel X58

I really like the look of the foxconn, but which would be better for gaming ?

I will probably be using 4 - 6 Gb of Corsair DDR3 XMS3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz
or OCZ DDR3 PC3-10666C7 1333MHz Platinum

I've been reading reviews, tests and forums for past 2 months as i'm also stuck on which motherboard.

There really seems very little between the boards.

Favourite board seems to be the Asus P6 but many people here will say the Gigabyte boards.

Over on the USA forums they seem to love the EVGA X58 board.

It is really a case of picking one you like the look of as they are all nearly on the same level.

I love the look of the foxconn, well get up early tomorro and decide before making the order, So hard :p And i cant wait for the EVGA, as im sittign with no system atm, and my gaming finger is getting *very*itchy

Do you need SLi? If not then buy a fast S775 system and very fast graphics and you'll have a better system. If you want SLi then you may as well buy the cheapest as they all seem one of a kind. Expensive. And that's coming from someone who has a Gigabyte EX-X58-UD5 and a vanilla ASUS P6T, both in boxes waiting for the SLi waterblocks to arrive:D

I most probably wont be running SLI for a long time... but its there as an upgrade option... I know the basics to gaming pcs... but nothing more. So what you are saying is going right over my head, thats why i need someone to kinda straight talk to me what i should be buying.. and thats why i need advice :(

Unfortunately I took the advice of what appears to be the general consensus on this forum and went for the Gigabyte UD5.

See this thread for my issues that I have had with that specific board.

I was previously running the Nforce 780 board from EVGA and was very happy with it. Only thing that could have been better was that the chipset ran very hot at full load (no OC'ing at all).

Think ill g with the ASUS board, Just watched the tigerdirect youtube review which was very useful, and the board comes with real time overclocking with a supplied program/software, which allows you to overclock easily without having to reboot etc.

p6t over the foxconn by a country mile

the gigabyte boards are excellent too

the oc palm thing for the p6t deluxe is fail

overclocking should ALWAYS be done in the BIOS

the evga x58 needs some serious work doing to it - it works but is a LOT more hassle than the asus/gigabyte boards
the evga classified will be in very short supply as they are making them to order afaik

if you are new to overclocking/high end systems, i would suggest steering clear of it

After some more research it appears that the Asus P6T has options built into the bios for automatically OC'ing the ram to it's rated speed.

This is the board I have now decided on and will be ordering once my refund for the failabyte UD5 comes through.

that depends on if your ram has XMP profiles built in

it doesnt auto oc the ram - it just sets it up to run at rated speed
