Which Z77?

Are you sure? Gigabyte Sniper 3 reports 2x 16x lanes and 2x 8x. It says on the product page running tri or 4x sli will drop to 8x lanes?

Pretty sure. Unless they have used the same amount of things that are used in X79 boards. Which I can't remember the name of. Which basically allows X79 PCI lanes to run at x16x16 in dual. Generally Z77/Z68 don't have as many since they aren't enthausists boards. I suppose the cost of the Sniper may actually be due to the fact that they used the same things as the X79 boards use.. But this is the first Im hearing of it is all.

Hmm it is not very clear. It does not say forsure that it runs 16x16 in 2x SLI. All it says is in 3 and 4x SLI it drops to 8x.

But it is nearly a £300 board so may have something extra. . .

it says 2 x 16 just checked on gigabyte website its 2x16 the z68 ud7 is the same

But is it 2x16 PCI slots in Single card mode? They may say 2x PCI 3.0 16x but that would be single card speed. Compared to SLI which is usually x8x8 so to speak, when you have the two 16x slots in dual mode at least.

go to gigabyte website it tells you if useing 2 cards make sure you put them in the 2 16 slots

Obviously I wouldn't SLI in anything but 16x slots. I see Tac... thats quite interesting. Wouldn't even require 16x in pce3.0 anyway. I just find it surprising that they included the feature on Z77 motherboards albeit expensive ones.

Looks like i'll be ordering the P8Z77-V as they are all pretty much the same in this price range except the Asus board has Wifi built in which is a nifty feature to have, even if it never gets used =P, Now onto the cooler! =P

Its been many years since i've had a highend system (skulltrail was my last) But I didn't think things would have moved on that much to max out the bandwidth on 16 lanes!

I've ordered one of these http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-202-MS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2261 which has pci-e 3.0 and 2.0, so would i be able to stick my 6870 in the 3.0 slot or will have to go in the 2.0 slot??

It'll be fine in the PCI-E 3.0 slot (which is only PCI-E 3.0 if you have an Ivy Bridge processor).

The PCI-E 2.0 x16 slot is only x4 speed so isn't the best to use and isn't ideal if you were ever planning on using CrossFire.

Ordered the P8Z77-V PRO board as cannot flog £200 on a new board, got a refund of more than I expected but hey, £27 for a new board is fine by me!, Just wonder if I will lose all my data on my SSD if its not recognised by the board, I hope not =(

It will boot-up and all it will do is pop up a balloon in the taskbar saying new hardware found/installing drivers and will do this a few times, but it will still work.

If it doesnt boot-up, check the SATA controller the SSD is plugged into is set to AHCI/IDE (the same as the first board it was installed onto)
