Whisperwood

Awesome! Been hoping for another update to this build but didn't want to hassle you for it :D
The depth you've gone to with the automation stuff is astounding! Really cool.

I'm guessing the screen is just an HDMI in? - Been considering one for an OBS monitor (or just PC metrics when not recording stuff), but want to integrate it as cleanly as possble without loads of extra cables... thinking maybe somewhere in my case (Enthoo Primo so thiking about either the HDD rack, visible through the little window, or carving out the 5.25" door)... I'll probably never get around to it in all honesty!
Hey you big... er Trojan.....whore.....

Spot on, there's a mini hdmi port and a usb c for power. I've got a couple of U-turn adapters so they'll tuck the cables behind the monitor cleanly too.

Hey, yes it's actually something I'm mulling now. It wasn't part of the original design concept, but it'd be super easy to have a magnetic mount so you could detach, tilt and then even put on your desk if you fancied! I might muse this!

This is exactly what i've done with one of my old stats LCD screens, it's now on my desk since it won't fit in any of my ITX platforms . Been looking at micro screens and especially the E-ink ones but its not cheap and there's some coding involved to get them to work properly.

You can get ones that work directly through USB though so you don't have to use hdmi.

Heheh! Well the nice thing about the way I've done it is it's instantly available on every device in my house, so I can control everything from every pc, phone, tablet as well.

Agree I saw some usb c only ones, but it didn't actually offer any benefit as I'm building the case to fit and they had some weaknesses (mainly as they're new still)

Out of interest, I'm planning on having a micro screen on my desk too with a few of the key stats when I redo the study - that'll take seconds to hook up!

If you're really interested in micro screens or any type of stats display on your desk or in a build you really need to look up Streacoms VU1, it pretty much ticks all the boxes.

Me I just use old android phones and tablets
I have Laying around
Costs me nothing
And puts something to use I already have
Pretty sure at one point I set them up
Over wifi
Didn't need a cable for video just power
Though I guess the screens you guys are using
The price would go up for video over WiFi functionality

Yes, exactly what I was thinking - most phones are wildly overpowered even if six years old for this sort of thing and the only thing that really goes is the battery, so could be a perfect solution!

Hmm, that looks interesting as a design to pinch! Although I could build this myself with a bit more flexibility, so might consider that!! I like the analogy look of the screens though, so I'll copy that!!

Like streamcoms site in general - lots of cool stuff there for builds, thanks for the tip!!

One bit I'm mulling for assembly is whether to use a steel frame of sorts and mount the walnut elements to this or just go all wood, there's pros and cons of both, but is there companies that offer tower frames? I can see streamcoms have them for little pcs (eg itx)

I have used ones as old as android 6
For aida64 sensor panels worked fine
Even that old a decent mobile has a good
High resolution screen on it
Even the rubbish free tablets I got
From sky work fine
So bad using them for browsing etc
Drove me crazy
For the external one I am using an old 10 inch yoga tab
Got a great metal kickstand built into it
Though you are obviously able to fabricate
A stand if needed anyway

They're using E-ink displays so should be quite quirky but also retro. Looking forward to test driving these when they finally come to market. The plan is probably to make my own mounts in CAD or just use them on my desk but i do have a plan for these to use in a build.

Ah, any advantages you see over using your own eink display? I've got a few of these around!

probably the biggest advantage will be the open source software, i'm quite eager to delve into that and see what myself and others can create with it.

Might have to make some old 8bit animations on it
