Hi ,

first post in a long time so be gentle.

I decided to give watercooling one more try after my last attempt about 7 years ago where my white water cpu block sprung a leak and took the motherboard and gpu with it.

I bought all nice new kit and I'm really happy with the temps so far. I bought an EK d5 tube res combo and put the black foam (note it is very coarse) in the bottom with the anti vortex thing as detailed in the instructions. I had it running for a few days with Mayems X1 clear mixed with alphacool pure water (no additives in it) and noticed a white resdiue forming on the sponge. I decided to try and lift it out to clean it but as I did the the residue then started to mix with the water again. I've left the sponge out now and had the system running for a week and everything seems fine.

So my question is, is this just the stuff in Mayhems settling and now I've taken the sponge out it'll be fine, or is it an incompatibility with the X1 and alphacool water or a lack of proper cleaning when I set everything up. I flushed the rads a few times but with only distilled water.

Setup;
Nexxus XT45 360 + XT45 280
EK supremecy evo
EK 780ti Block
EK D5 140 tube combo
Primochill advanced lrt tubing

Many thanks,
Craig.

New radiators usually need a better clean than just distilled water.
I usually use white vinager and hot water mix.
Then a baking soda hot water mix.
Then flush with distilled water.
Or you could spend the money on a Mayhems Blitz Pro Cleaning System.

Bugger. Too late to get one for the weekend now as well.

Would just the part 2 from a blitz kit work okay or do I need to strip it all down. Can't be arsed mixing this and that I'd just rather buy something intended for the job.

Thanks for the help.

Yes I know as this is what I was referring to, but I was wondering if I had to do the radiator blitz thing which involves taking them out again or if just the flush bit would be enough.

You really need something acidic to strip all the crap out of the inside of the radiator.
You could possibly just try the second part to flush out your system, but chances are over time more of the crap will filter out of the rad and you will have to start again.

with those rads they are unclean and use dirty copper you need to use acid or part 1 of the mayhems blitz kit to clean them. Then you need to neutralize the acid (part 2 of the blitz kit does this properly). There is no way around it.

when i got my ek pe240 rads it says on the box ready for use no cleaning required. i put them straight in and its as clean as a whistle for the last 7 months with mayhems x1 uv blue. i presume its different manufacturer to manufacturer?
