White sprit to remove cpu paste

Is this advisable ? I was planning to get some isoprophyl alcohol but I heard white spirit and some cotton buds do the job.

White spirit will leave a film behind. Get some iso or if you really can't find any, use the cheapest vodka you can get your hands on.

250ml Iso for £3 on the rainforest shall do then.

Haven't tried getting it off yet but it might be better to get some iso

White Spirit is made from Parafin, not very nice stuff.

What on earth is a lint free cloth? Keep hearing it being batted around...

Is it just a cloth that doesn't leave bits behind?

And where can I obtain one?

Yeah it doesn't leave bits behind like clinging bits of fiber and fluff

Your local B&Q should stock them too I believe. I'm sure thats where I got mine way back.

Just because you've done something countless times, doesn't mean it's a great idea.

The parafin it leaves behind impares the properties of the interface material.

Any residue that it leaves behind is going to be so minute that it's not going to make a measureable difference.

If you wear glasses then you can use the cloth that comes with your glasses case... although don't wipe your specs after cleaning your CPU

I just used white spirit tonight to reseat my H50 with IC Diamond, have always used it with a bit of kitchen roll, temps are 33 -35 so i don't think there's any problem using it.
