Took apart my graphics card as it maybe broken. And it has little bits of white tape on parts of it.

What are these for?

Are they to stop shortages or something else?

I found the same kind of thing in my xbox when I took it apart, I assumed they were some sort of thermal pad, which look just like white tape but a bit thicker and spongy.

Yeah I thought they were thermal pads but not 100% sure. I need to replace some of them. Can you get them on here?

Just going to have a look.

Akasa AK-TT12-80 Thermal Adhesive Tape [AK-TT12-80]

Is that it?

Do I have to use that or can i use CPU thermal paste?

Rather depends on what they were. My graphics card used a grey thermal tape of about 2-3mm thickness on RAM and VRM whilst the GPU had a white thermal compound which had gone pretty hard.

The Akasa tape is quite thin so if it's meant to replace a thermal pad like my card had then it's probably not going to be much good.

More details/pictures needed I think.

It's deffo thermal pads, looking at the OP's GPU in the signature. I opened my 280 as well and the thermal pads were white.

PS - That AKASA tape is an adhesive one, if it's one sided then stick it on the shroud and not the chips so if you wanted to change it you wouldn't have to pull them off (and potentially damage) the gpu chips. OcUK don't seem to have the normal non adhesive thermal pads.
