I have a laptop that just wont give me internet access.

I've connected it via ethernet and wifi, the laptop connects up fine and displays the connected icon fine, yet no webpages load, and it will not let me log onto my router (192.168.1.1) Yet all the icons and properties say its connected fine.

Ive reinstalled the drivers, no luck.

Never come across this before?

HELP OcUk.

windows vista premium.

I just connected it again, the laptop says connected and it displays fine, yet i cant access 192.168.1.1 and webpages dont connect.

Never come across this before, more likely to be hardware issue that software?

Anyway i can run some tests? Connected it to my phone earlier to, my phone picks it up as connected, yet same thing, cant access any internet on laptop.

Is this a works laptop? I know our IE settings on our work laptops are setup to work through proxys and therefore they wont work at home without removing the settings, unless you install firefox for home..

No, its a friends laptop from home.

Like i say, i connected it to the internet via three different methods now, they all connect up as usual, yet no internet connectivity AT ALL. It wont even connect to the router via 192.168.1.1.

Just don't understand at all.

update, i used safari webbrowser that was pre installed, i can access google and do searches, i can get to facebook but it times out when i try log in.

It would seem hardware is working then, but why will nothing else load!

Double click on each of the connections and goto properties and then choose Internet Protocol Version 4 and make sure Obtain IP addrss and DNS are on automatically.

Your DHCP lease expired on the 7th Janurary 2007...

As above make sure the settings are for DHCP and that the router itself is set up properly (even if it means a hard reset).

The router is fine, im running my laptop and pc off it, ive also tried the laptop at a different house AND used my phone wifi to connect the laptop up.

The laptop acts the same on all routers etc.

Tried a different user account? Could always try disabling internet connections, re-install anti-virus/firewall then reconnect

Within Internet Explorer go to Tools > Options > Connections (tab) > LAN Settings

Ensure that the proxy details are not specified and that Automatically detect settings is not ticked - this can sometimes interfere with IE and other browsers can inherit their network/proxy settings from IE.

I've seen similar issues before with one particular client, could get to Google do a search but anything else would time out.

Let us know how you get on
