top floor, no lift

looked at AO.com, Currys, Argos and John Lewis but can't find anything concrete saying they'll deliver...just 'we will assess on the day due to H+S etc' type statements.

is there anywhere I can order and be guaranteed delivery?

or some better (more likely to get on with it) than others?

Just choose the cheapest and get a few mates to help you with it. A few packs of beers should see them right and happy.

hmmm...I did that when I moved in. Turned in to a pantomime! :p so was hoping there would be somewhere that would just charge a rate and deliver to flats regardless, also get the old one taken away too.

But yeah looks like it's not that easy so maybe just get it delivered to my parents and take it to mine and get a mate to lend a hand at the weekend

I was one of the "mates" once - thought I was doing well lifting and carrying while waiting for the other "mate" (who I didn't know) to turn up - it was over 50Kg - he turns up and is like stand back - lifts it up on his shoulder like it is nothing and carries it up the stairs without breaking a sweat :s

the issue with me was the opposite.....my pal that came to help used to deliver for MFI...thought it would be a breeze....but he had kinda lost his touch

as soon as we got up to the flat he flung the windows open then was hanging out the window catching his breath...thought I was going to have to phone an Ambulance :p

Washing machines are a nightmare not just because of their weight but also how awkward they are but even so you and a mate will be ok, just be careful with your backs! I guess you could get another person to help but you do find with these things too many people just make it more of a faff!

I had a bed delivered once by some animal, it was a heavy bed but he just got it out the van, onto his shoulder and up the stairs like nothing! When we moved I thought to myself "I watched one guy deliver this, I can shift it" How wrong I was :p

John Lewis happily delivered a washer\drier to a 3rd floor flat I own. As someone has said, it’s the descretion of the deliverers, but they normally are obliged to do all they can to deliver the goods so will ordinarily do what they can if it’s physically possible to deliver it.

The customer service of John Lewis delivery men is top notch, if you buy it in store they'll ask you if there's a lift or not, if not the delivery men will have been pre-warned and I would expect will be happy to carry it up for you.

Can only say that I have bought most appliances from AO and their delivery guys tend to be great

I don't think your going to get anyone to guarantee they will take it up, but as long as access is good I can't see them saying no on the day

AO will always call you once you place an order and send you a form to complete (online) in regards access etc, so you would tick the stairs box and they would go over that with you.
If its beyond what they think is reasonable they will cancel your order. They having nothing to gain by sending you something they can't deliver as they will just have to refund.

Not quite related but I had a large American FF delivered from AO and it didn't even go through my door - no problem they broke open some tools and took the doors off it (inc piping for the ice maker/water thing) then put it together again. I know this is more weight related issue but I'm sure they'd have ago.

That said - man with a van type service - they must always be lugging stuff around for people

when I first read that jimjam i thought you meant they started taking your front door off! :D

John Lewis or AO sound promising....was expecting a 'deliver to flats' option tbh but if they call before and know about it, it should be fine. If I need to do it it's not a big hassle...just easier to get it delivered

also never thought about the option of refusing if they can't get it up the stairs, just didn't want it dumped on the ground floor!

We got our log burner delivered and it was dropped off on a pallet. We had some builders round so i asked one to give me a hand moving it. I could barely even lift my side up and he ended up calling one of the other guys to move it with him.

I've never felt so manly :p

If you forewarn John Lewis/AO they will let the drivers know and make sure its 2 man del

I had Meile washer delivered years ago told driver and his mate to drop it in the hall I'd move it later "you sure mate" they said "yeah its fine" says idiot me . Only after they left did I release it weighted 94KG took me 4 hours + trapped fingers and a lot of swearing to move it 6 metres

Yea, definitely tell them ahead (usually with AO they call you immediately after the order under the guise of checking the delivery but actually it's to sell insurance). Tell them then.

Although in my experience, I had a fridge freezer delivered from AO, with my old one collected. They took the old one and then only took the new one as far as the hallway (I'm ground floor Victorian). They didn't have time to take it any further. In the end I had to move it myself, which was quite challenging do to the shape of my hallway.

If the fitting price offered by these companies is reasonable then purchase that because they would then be less likely to use the "H&S" clause to get out of delivering because then cant be bothers carrying it up stairs and/or have enough time. As an installation job they will have been allocated a lot more time.

If they get there and refuse then refuse delivery and get them to refund you.
