Who did Maths at A-Level?

Well call me short sighted, but I honestly am just applying to university to do more maths. And Cambridge and Warwick happen to be the best places for that. As for fun, maybe you're right. I haven't had the opportunity to visit bristol or nottingham yet, but maybe I'll reconsider when I do. :)

Oops, missed this post.

Honestly, I don't think not having Cambridge on your CV is going to stop you getting anywhere, especially when a Maths degree from Bristol is pretty hench. I know loads of people with Bristol degrees who are really flying now. Please don't go to Warwick because it's higher up in a league table than Bristol, the thought of it genuinely upsets me!

Yep, Bristol is really good for maths. If you want a job at an investment bank (every maths student seems to) or top consultancy firm, after Oxbridge/LSE there isn't much between the top universities. It's all about what grades you get and the work experience/EC's.

Had to drop maths A level as I hadn't done calculus before. Everyone else had done a year of it, but my curriculum was different. Really annoying, as now looking back, I would have preferred to do a degree in maths. Oh well.

I did maths (A*) and further maths (A), and I'm doing my first year of engineering at Durham now, possibly with a view to specialising in civil.

I did A-level Pure Maths & Maths Mechanics back in the late 90's. Worst decision I have ever made! Failed both papers due to lack of work/interest and that's pretty much where my education ended.

I'm now an acountant/financial analyst :D The maths, however, features very little in my job.

I did regular Maths at A-Level, got a B which I was pretty pleased with :) Plus got full marks on my Stats 1 resit which I have managed to use a bit since iv been at uni (proving lecturers wrong and being able to read studies properly)

I got a C in mine, but mainly because our teacher for the third-last and penultimate years didn't actually teach us as much as he should have, so in the final year of sixth form we struggled to catch up to the level we needed for A-levels.

Got a diploma in programming, and currently don't do much with maths beyond excel calculations (Business analyst).

Looks like you fell through the same cracks as me and a couple others here :(

Math education in this country is so fail.

Cambridge is hardly a boring city? :/

I'd disagree.

It's a beautiful city. Don't get me wrong, and if I was choosing between Oxford and Cambridge, I'd pick Cambridge. However, there's not actually massive amounts to do if you're a tourist, apart from look around the colleges/a few museums and maybe watch a play... Oh and that horrific beetle clock. Whilst this sounds like loads, you can do it all in about 24 hours...

A in A Level Maths, A in A Level Further Maths, First in BSc Maths, I now work in Computational Electromagnetics.

Yup, bit of a maths geek. Someone has to be :D

Now working for a sports betting consultancy after 4-5 successful years in the City.

But we aren't talking tourists here. I'd dispute the 24 hours claim as well. Just visiting Duxford alone is going to be a day. Other than a suspension bridge what makes Bristol so awesome all of a sudden?

14 years ago I did Mathematics at A-Level standard.

Pure Maths and Mechanics (I did Physics too).

I'm not embarassed to admit I got a C - not far off a B, but I struggled with Mechanics module 3 - I should have got a tutor as my teacher was more interested in chatting about football and cricket scores. :/ However when you're 17 you don't really think of it, and just wait for the bell to ring. Proud of my Pure passes though. :) My maths now is pretty poor - I can just about remember how to integrate/differentiate and do simultaneous equations... and work out pivots and loads... :o

Because it's amazing! :D

I've already sold it and I don't really know how else to say it. I think you'd struggle to find people that have lived there that would disagree. Plus it's the best place to live according to that bbc survey a few years ago - the smoking gun! :p

Did A level maths back in 1984. Left school to fix fork lift trucks. Left that to go to Uni in 1994 to study for a MEng in Electronic Eng. Then did a PhD in computational electromagnetics, which has a bit of maths in it...
