My other half has a 1.1.2 jailbroken iPhone . I'm planning on updating it to 1.1.3 but am curious as to the best way of doing it.

I've found this guide which looks straight forward. I'm just slightly scepticle as it's a few weeks old. Which ever way I end up doing it it will have to be from Windows.

Any advice?

I did! I just followed this from the sticky
1.1.3 Update Guide

Firstly, you must be connected to a Wi-Fi connection and secondly if you have 'Customize' installed on your iPhone, you must uninstall them first as it currently does not work with 1.1.3. You will also need to reinstall any apps that are installed. Only update if you really want 1.1.3 as it is known to give errors and be buggy.

Before you start

Make sure your battery is charged, you don't want it to cut of half way during the upgrade.
You must have a Jailbroken 1.1.2 iPhone.
It is recommended to uninstall all apps before you proceed, then install them again afterwards.
You must have the latest version of BSD subsystem installed from the Installer.
You must have the latestest update of Installer.app
You must be connected via Wi-Fi.
Auto-lock must be set to NEVER (Settings > General > Autolock)

Step 1
All you need to do is locate the 'Official 1.1.3 Upgrader' by Conceited Software in the Installer.
It will install and add a app to the springboard.
Click the app.
Click YES to use hacktivation.
Click NO to restore, (unless you want to wipe a your music etc)
It will now download a package. This will take a while as it is around 180MB.
After it has downloaded, it will install. This will take about 20 minutes.
After it has installed, it will automatically restart the iPhone. When it turns back on, in may take longer than usual while it displays the apple, this is nothing to worry about.
That's it, you're done.

Do you really need to upgrade to 1.1.3? I should have asked myself this question really lol.

Edit - Just read above ^^

If you update to 1.1.3 via iTunes they be should fine, you only lose stuff if you choose the restore option. Besides iTunes keeps a backup of the contents of your iPhone anywhu.

Update to the latest 1.1.3 via iTunes and then use ZiPhone to jailbreak/unlock it or both.

Id recommend RESTORING to 1.1.3 in itunes, just incase apple do something with the 1.1.3 update. Download the 1.1.3 update from somewhere.

I was on 1.1.3 then went back to 1.1.2 as i missed the 5 icon dock and other little niggles. I will go back to 1.1.3 when all the apps i like support it.

Surely restoring it to 1.1.3 bricks it?!

Absolutely no need for that, besides you downgraded what's that got to with this thread

There are two ways..

1) The easiest way from an Installer point of view (if you aren't concerned about maintaining data) is to open Installer on 1.1.2 and go to "System > Official 1.1.3 Updater"

Install the little app, press home when it's done and then run the update.

You'll want to let it do it's thing for a while (about half hour) and you'll be jailbroken on 1.1.3. From here you can run the unlock seperately if you need.

2) The second method involves updating/restoring to 1.1.3 in iTunes.

When it's been restored/updated just run the ZiPhone application.

Let it do it's thing and you'll be jailbroken & unlocked in one step.

I've tested both, and they both work.. one just takes longer than the other. If you have a 1.1.3 OOTB then the ZiPhone method is really better.
