Hey -

Now before anyone attempts to answer, please don't let politics get involved in the thread...

This question is really several in one I guess:

Who has the largest army?

Who has the most advanced equipment (weapons, tanks, planes whatever)

Who has the most elite troops ? (I have heard it is either the UK SAS, the US or the Israel Mossad... no idea if that is true!)

This is just a "I am curious thread" not for anything in particular :)
 
As far as i'm aware its the US is it not? Being the richest and most technologically advanced.

Though the most elite are supposed to be the sas i think.

Hard to calculate I'd say. But to be advanced and have lots of war toys to play with you'd need to spend a bit of cash. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_military_expenditures

Gotta be the SAS for most hardcore.

Biggest would probably be China, dont they have a population of over a billion now?

yup china have swarms of men available, though training questionable :)

USA most advanced no doubt

One thing to remember though, even though we are tiny on the world map we have the 2nd largest military budget AFAIK (certainly per capita), and the 2nd largest navy on the planet. When our new 2 * super carriers come online we'll be only country to posess them other than the USA. Not bad at all :). We also have probably the most advanced sub in the world, the new Astute class.. one of the best battle tanks in Challenger II, 2nd best fighter with Typhoon, one of the best Air defence destroyers with the new Type 45s.

All above makes me proud to be british..

As far as special forces go you can't say who's the best, anyone who argues the point on internet is just talking $%^& ;). The SAS are very good, well trained, but no special forces are 'super humans' as the media like to tell us... just very fit dudes with good training.

edit: it seems france now have pipped our 2nd place budget size, they don't count as all their budget is spent working out ways to retreat and not fight.....as proved throughout history (they don't even deserve to be in NATO imo)

The most equipped i would probably say the US

Best special forces I think is hard to narrow down to one specific country, any special forces are highly trained soldiers, I guess whichever one has the most advanced training and toughest continious assessments they have(If that makes sense)
 
As we prooved at the Battle of Agincourt, when approx 7,000 English troops beat approx 30,000 French troops, size of the marching army is not so important, it is the training and equipment.

Training, you've got to say the British Army is top.

Elite forces also, the British special forces are world renowned at the best, even by the American generals!

Equipment is more difficult to measure. The yanks have good equipment, as do the Swiss and Swedish, even though they never really use them!! Contrary to media hype, the British also have very good equipment. Challenger 2 tank is definately the best in the world!!
 
We'll never know who has the best "elite" soldiers as the best ones would never attract attention to their existence.
