Who has the best army in the world?

There was a wall right there in front of him that would have offered awesome support for the weapon. If he needed covering fire while he moved than why didnt he ask his teammates who were right near him.

Personally, I dont care how he fires it. I just find it funny how people are defending his way of firing it but would critisize an American soldier for doing the same thing.

That's because it was an English Soldier firing it which means to us brits that:
a) He had assessed the nature of the target in front of him
b) He had ensured there were no friendly targets downrange that could be hurt
c) That on balance it was a measured and sensible response to the threat in front of him.
We don’t have the same confidence in American troops, because we think our troops are considerably better than any one elses.

I must admit I don't really feel anymore confident with the UK troops than I do the US ones... Maybe that is just me ?

UK troops are trained so much better. This is why many other countries get their training from the British Army, and why the British Army is used as a model for most Armies around the world.

Well he was probably Scottish, heard most of the special forces are:p

Then what you can't hear on the video clip was the line 'Aw **** they've gone an done it now! That was Hamishes last can of special brew they just hit!'

LOL, you've been through the training?

I guess you dont know what the Green Berets do around the world then. LOL, who do you think was in Afghanistan before everyone else training the Northern Alliance, it wasnt the SAS.

Truth is we will probably never know who was there first, usually mixed nationality special ops/security services and mercs, all down to denyability in case they get caught and taken or the planned war dose not happen.

Thats exactly what people complain about the US forces doing, using quantity and not quality.

people complain when the US do it in the middle of a civilian area - taking shots at insurgents amongst civilians is a bit different to a dense group of insurgents amongst, well, other insurgents

US forces are more trigger happy and tend to be less popular amongst to local population as a result - not bashing the US military in general - if you absolutely have to invade a country and crush everything in your path then they are pretty much the best in the world - but for peace support operations as opposed to outright warfare brits have a lot more experience (30+ years of northern Ireland operating under very strict rules of engagement kind of help there)

How do you know I would.

Where have we said that?

If it were a US troop trying to shimmy down that wall my response would have been no different.

I also agree with what dowie said with regards to our experience of NI.

US are more likely to be involved in friendly fire incidents too

Because US troops are the majority of the forces there and are taking on the majority of the tasks.

Dowie, US troops are generally well accepted over there. I think the thousands of photos of smiling faces surrounding US soldiers says a lot. and your wrong about the first ones there.

Well when I was in Iraq a fairly frequent question from the locals was simply 'American?' - replying 'No, British' certainly made some of them more receptive.

I could waffle on for pages on this but US SOPs are different and they certainly do **** off the locals a lot more than we did. The ones I encountered hadn't even bothered to learn basic arabic & had next to no cultural awareness - seriously ask any regular US soldier a few basic questions about Islam and they won't have a clue.

Standard procedure for US convoys is to have a big sign on the back with red writing on in English and Arabic telling all vehicles to keep back else they'll get shot. This also seemed to apply to our vehicles on occasions - I mean how many Iraqis do you see in armored toyota land cruisers with union flags fixed to the dashboards? Not only that but shots were also fired at british military vehicles - you can guess what happened to a few locals who accidentally went too close to US convoys.

edited as I don't want to waffle on too much or over criticise the Americans as individually they were really decent guys

I don't think it was covering fire that he need, more a matter of moving in and out of cover quickly. Yes he could have got support on that wall but that wouldn't have been very wise.

As for American soldiers I haven't critisized them in this thread or any other that I can think of.

Post of the thread IMO. Needs a picture to go with. :)
