Who here is able to grow a lucious beard?

It's like any hair, get a fine comb and some beard oil and just comb it daily. It'll stop growing in weird directions.

People seem to think growing a beard is just a case of not shaving, but if you want it to look half decent then it's worth putting some effort in especially once it starts to get a little longer as otherwise it just looks rubbish.

Any recommendations on beard oil/balm that doesnt smell like brake fluid? Oh and although i know its oil but is there any that isnt greasy on the skin?

I've tried a lot and none of them are greasy because of the type of oils used. I usually just go with Bulldog because it smells nice, it's comfortable and it's widely available.

By far the best I've used is Murdock beard oil. It's expensive though.

Might be because i have just bought the cheap stuff from home bargains then.. lol.

Is it better to go for a balm or an oil?

I left mine and apart from trimming it down the sides and keeping the moustache short, I didn't touch it for about nine months. It grew to about six inches long and that's when I got fed up with it catching in seat belts, getting caught in my shirt and then finally when I found some gravy in it.

Off it came, the whole lot and I was back down to my #2 stubble goatee.

I haven't shaved again since, will try again and keep it tidier this time.

I used balm for some time and even though it makes your beard fuller and darker - and better to control - it gets everywhere and is far more greasy. My wife used to always complain [not unfairly] about the grease from the balm getting all over the place [because we tend to touch our faces more than we realise and then touch other things]. This is why I ditched the balm just for oil several months ago and there haven't been any complaints since.

Oil gets absorbed into the hair. Balm sits on the surface.

Well i am off to sainsburys after work so will grab some then. I have been thinking about getting some of their beard shampoo and conditioner as well as i only wash daily with hot water in the shower but no soap as that dries it out and causes the itching.

I used Hawkins and Brimble, although i do have a crapload of Bulldog stuff i bought in Aldi when it was reduced once. If you want i can post it over?

Another thing that can cause itching is not washing the beard enough: sometimes I only wash once a week and after I've washed it it's noticeably more comfortable. It should really be twice. And definitely with conditioner after the shampoo.

Good luck with the beard product hunt :)

Beards are easy, just got to persevere and get through the itchy stage. I've had beards most of my adult life but the 'hipster' beard craze ruined it so I'm currently beardless.

WOW thanks for the offer. If its not too much trouble i would appreciate that. Just drop me a trust and we can arrange.

I have mine mainly in an attempt to cover my jelly chins but i would prefer it to be tidy rather than fat homeless man look. :o

I went through a lot of oils, and recently found "ZOUSZ Beard Oil - Black Oud Wood" which I find not really oily/watery and smells great but I prefer a thicker oil then the cheap watery ones you can get.

but it is possibly on the higher side of cost.

ZOUSZ Beard Oil has an amazing scent, to be fair. But it is expensive.

Yes it is sadly, you can subscribe on there site currently and get one every 2-12weeks for £18 which isn't too bad as its a fairly thick oil so it does last.

I think my first bottle I purchased was in April and has only just ran out, and I use it every morning and that lasted me like 12weeks.

I have been through so much "cheap" oils and just find 99% of them awful.

If anyone here is old enough to remember as far back as the sixties, maybe seventies, we had stiff blue passports that you could have a photo of husband and wife in, no doubt women’s lib saw them off.
After I split with my first wife, I grew a full set, bushy beard and moustache, and had to have a new passport, this still contained a space for two photos, one was my original photo, from about a year previously, and the other had me with the beard, it said underneath, ‘recent photo of bearer’, but it was in the space where usually a wife’s photo would be.
I lost count of the times that I showed my passport on arrival back in U.K., and the guys would say, “Slipped up badly there pal, your old woman doesn’t look too good!”

Yeah no worries, i'll send you a message now.

I trim the beard, clipper head (0mm) and shave my neck/cheeks once per week. I should probably shave a couple of times per week but I'm to lazy. I've found that the balder I've become the more magnificent my beard growing prowess becomes, which, I've recently learnt is due to DHT, which makes you go bald and inversely beardy.

I'm not really bothered about being bald but I'm getting the odd grey hair in the beard which I find quite distressing. My son saw be plucking a couple of hairs out and became upset that I was getting old and mouldy lol.

I can grow a decent beard - but for me the itchiness never goes away even after a few weeks - don't think it is just sharp ends as my hair gets fairly soft after a couple of weeks of growing out.
