Who here owns a Mini?

£912/year for a comprehensive extended warranty with breakdown cover and £100 excess. I can't be the only one who thinks that's really expensive for a Cooper S?

My A4 that cost double to buy and has a lot more to go wrong is not far off that!

I remember the days of paying £420 for the fully comprehensive warranty with zero excess (or £370 for the £100 excess) on a BMW 335i N54. Now that was worth it.

Paying £1000 for a warranty on three year old Mini Cooper S? Ha, rather you than me. Just put £1000 into a pot each year and self insure.

I've found the review - it's the Works 210 on Top Gear - and I've slightly misled. It mightn't be worth it on a 210, but it does seem to be on a Cooper S.

Cool, thanks :) I'm not sure why they're of that opinion since from what I know the Works 210 is a normal Cooper S with a remap and a rude-boy exhaust. I can't see why one doesn't need adaptive dampers and the other does.

Anyways, it's a moot point really. My girlfriend has little interest in these things and she will be the one driving it 85% of the time. For the money we want to spend, it's nigh on impossible to find any Cooper S with adaptive dampers. I did find one rather loaded Cooper S in Reading with them that was within budget, along with a boatload of other options, but it was another year older and thus closer to that all important manufacturer's warranty expiration date.

Cooper S seems to double the price of a Cooper then, very odd. Those figures are 5 series prices

The whole thing is really bizarre. Most of the reviews I've read say that the Cooper is the sweetheart of the range, yet each time I look at the Coopers with what I would consider acceptable spec, they are within £1000 of a Cooper S with the same options, mileage and age (roughly).

I know the 1.5L is a peach, but who wouldn't want the pops and crackles of a Cooper S and another 53BHP for £1k?

EDIT: The price is ~75% more for a Cooper S vs Cooper. The quote below is based on a 63 reg (09/09/2013) Cooper with 37k miles:

The 2013 Cooper is the older model with the 1.6 N/A, not the 1.5.

IMHO the current Cooper is so good it makes you wonder what the point in a Cooper S is. It's far quicker than you expect, yet the Cooper S isn't all that.

With the previous model though the Cooper S is considerably quicker than the Cooper which really is quite lethargic at times.

I was comparing the 2016 Cooper vs 2016 Cooper S :) The price difference between the two like-for-like really isn't that big.

We test drove a 3 door Cooper S tonight so that she could see if she likes it, and predictably she did. Now the real hunt for a 5 door begins...

Did they do that on the F56 ? The R56 Cooper S and JCW are quite a lot different.

I don't claim to know much about Minis, but from what I've seen with the F56, they offer 3 performance models.

Cooper S
Cooper S + JCW Pro tuning kit (you can either add this on later, or you can buy the "Works 210" model from the factory with it included)
John Cooper Works

The JCW Pro tuning kit includes a +20BHP remap and JCW Pro valved exhaust for the Cooper S. So it still has less power than a JCW, but the same exhaust. I don't know if the JCW has a different suspension setup. I assume it does?

Guy who runs Manic Motorsport has an R53, R56 and F56 JCW and does not like the F56. Will message him and find out what the differences are.

You confused me then by going on about warranty costs on the old model.

I have generally found equivalent spec Cooper S to be more than 1k more than a Cooper. I have not found them to be anything like as similarly priced as you have. We are considering replacing her 2012 Cooper at some point. I

Our Mini Countryman Cooper S is 3 years old and MOT due in a week. Drove it last night to see a chip has turned into a crack so booked Autoglass to repair as per MINI insurance.

Any experience with glass replacements? Do A pillar trim pieces tend to come off and go back okay?

You can't get a warranty quote on a car that's still under warranty, so I had to choose the previous generation Cooper/Cooper S because none of the F56 models are 3 years old yet.

Good effort - Blue Peter would be proud!

Was yours peeling away?

Ah good - have you noticed any difference in brake pedal feel since doing the rears? You just had the braided fronts before didn't you?

No mine was fine, I had a couple of rattles that needed attention so started removing trim etc and thought why not go for a change of colour. Really happy with how it turned out.
The fronts made no difference, I assume as the rears were just expanding still but now the rears are done too the pedal is much nicer. After fitting new rear discs and pads I went for a hoon trying a new tactic to bed them in... Came back and the disc had gone slightly blue and everything was smoking... Did the trick though. The rears actually have some bite!
The front setup feels perfect now too with the grooved discs and standardish pads. I have had no fade/squeal and minimal dust. Overall it's not been without its headaches but the braking has improved drastically :)
I think if I put the XP8s back in the pedal would be rock hard and feel awesome... I'll save those though for if I ever track it.
