Who here owns a Mini?

My scanner is telling me nothing... Should an obd scanner be able to?
I spoke to James from Cotswold Mini, he says its 99% likely to be the NSF as that's the one normally lighting the dash up... £102 for a replacement... I'd like to be able to scan first and confirm which one it is though ideally.

There used to be a guy on the minitorque forum who had a decent scanner and would post it out on request, not sure if it's still on the go but used it a couple of times when I disrupted the airbag wiring moving seats in and out of the car

That'd certainly be handy, I'll have a google cheers :)
I've got INPA and DIS on my laptop as part of the cable shack package. I've also got the Carly for BMW app on my phone which I use with the Cableshack cable. The OBD connectors will tell you nothing about any faults stored on the ABS/DSC or airbag ECUs, you need something that can read proprietary codes.

I'd be happy to loan you my cable if you wanted, then you'd just need to get the app on your phone (which I can help you with also!).

Don't spend £100+ on a new ABS sensor - it's such a waste of money. Either get a used genuine Mini one from eBay for a tenner or get a brand new Febi one from Amazon for about £30. They are one of those things which are so expensive to buy new, but so cheap to buy used and rarely go wrong.

Wow thanks for the offer, so the cable plugs into my phone? Do I need the £40 'pro' version of the app though? The 'lite' seems to have some poor reviews...
Yeah I've bought a used sensor off eBay and should be here Monday.
Cheers for the help gaygle :D

Yep the cable plugs into your phone. If you have an Android phone the app is easily installed and set up, then you plug in the cable and click connect. You can also do a load of coding at just the click of a button.

Drop me a trust if you wanted to borrow it :) don't buy the app yet either!

Trust Sent :)

In other news... Aero grilles and a boot handle seal, took 10 minutes to replace, 4 Torx scres under the handle and the old one peeled off easy enough, hopefully will stop the occasional damp boot floor.

Rear control arm and subframe bolts (£30+ worth:rolleyes:) and a few trim clips

Top one, I just broke off the nuts holding the old one on and glued the new one in with clear 'Sticks Like ****' from Screwfix. Simple enough

For the bottom one I started off by marking out where the tabs are for the new grille and slotting it carefully with the Dremel

But quickly realised it'd still need a lot of clearancing on the grille OR remove more from the bumper
So I cut the whole piece out and glued the replacement in...

Et voilà

Sits flush and should be secure enough once the adhesive sets... Looks so much better :)
Do I do the headlight trim now though?

Knocking suspension I was on about? Think I found the culprit.

Currently talking with Jerrick from Meister about replacement spherical bearings or specs so I can source my own :)

Had a new thermostat fitted 2 weeks ago as the old one died , having another one fitted tomorrow as the replacement has a dodgy sensor!!

In the process of building an R53, started off like this a year ago, the day after I bought it:

Current spec on it as follows:

It will be getting some attention in the engine bay over the next week. I'm really pleased with how its turned out so far, looking to sort insurance this week so I can get it on the road.

Nice! What's it like on track? Bet it's a bit of a weapon. I'd hate to see how much you'd spent on it though! :/

In other news, I changed my fuel filter today. Not a hard job, just a bit fiddly and with the risk of petrol going everywhere.

Literally got it home last week after respray etc so no track days as yet. Took my old R53 on track and that was fun so cant wait to get this. A little late for the OC Curbrough sprint day, but if a slot opens up I want to take it down.
