Who inflicted your football team on your children?

We're expecting our first kid next week. My dad and I are Spurs season ticket holders but my wife's side of the family are Liverpool fans.

Where we live now is a bit of a football deadzone by London standards. The nearest club is QPR and then it's Arsenal. I think most of the kids around here support Arsenal. I won't force him to be a Spurs fan but I'd disown him if he decided to be a Gooner.

Realistically, I'm most likely to take him to some non-league football matches first. We can all go as a family without the hassle of buying tickets and I won't have wasted much money if he decides he doesn't like football after ten minutes. Also, I can have a beer while we watch the game. :p

My dad and brother both support Man United. Because of the latter, it meant I couldn't support Manu and went for Newcastle instead. So I was able to choose any team I wanted as long as it wasn't Manu.

My son can support who he likes. My guess is it may depend where we end up living, I have no intention of taking him to Arsenal until he is at least 9 or 10 but I might take him to a more local match maybe before that if he shows an interest.

Grew up a Heart of Midlothian fan, wouldn't have it any other way. Good to support the same team as my old man and have many great memories of going to the games together.

Grew up with my mates in Hinckley supporting Leicester City.

My 3 yr old son loves playing football and we cheer on the Foxes together.

Hopefully we won't be turned to the dark side and start supporting Derby when he grows up. :(

Nobody in my family was really bothered about sport.

I just one day back in 1992 sat down and watched Man United and was mesmerised by the brilliant, flowing, direct attacking football.

And they became my team.

Given my reasons for starting to support them, you can imagine I'm absolutely thrilled with the current brand of football they've been playing. /sarcasm

[Edit] As for my local team Exeter City, I used to go to a fair few of their games when growing up but I got fed up with the constant changing owners who didn't give a **** about the club. Plus as soon as they started to achieve anything they would be picked clean of talent.

I'll actively encourage my son to support anyone but Newcastle (as long as it isn't Sunderland) no one deserves the footballing life being a Newcastle fan inflicts on you.

I have always gone and watched football. My dad took me to watch lots of football clubs, lower league clubs and we have always watched (had season tickets) at Sheffield Wednesday. My cousin would 'steal me' when I was little (90's) and we would go and watch Manchester United.

My Grandad used to be chairman of a football club in the lower leagues and non league, so I have a lot of love for lower league football too.

As it stands I watch every home match of Sheffield Wednesday, will nip to Old Trafford when I can with my cousin, will sometimes pop and watch Leicester too (local side). Keep an eye out on a bunch of lower league clubs and try and make time for them but it's difficult at the minute with personal circumstance and University.

I guess my dad imposed Wednesday on me, my cousin and uncle Manchester United.
