hi there, ive set up a wireless connection and i have no idea about networking. can someone point me in the direction of a site that will confirm to me who the isp is for this connection as i want to be sure that ive connected to my own connection.

thanks

ok thanks for that, all seems to be ok... next problem... i'm connected to the net but internet explorer doesnt agree? the page opens but it wont communicate with the internet. i've also tried firefox (i transferred this via disc as i cant access any other way of downloading it) but encountered the same problem, the page opens and i still cant access any other websites. Its not a firewall problem as there isnt one installed as yet. Help..... its driving me crazy

ive reverted back to using my old modem for the time being as i cant access the net otherwise, so no i'm not using the router right now. Basically the set up is: Main desktop pc in one room with the router connected to it, then i'm trying to use the laptop on the wireless connection. I never realised it would be this complicated!?!?!?..

thanks for the input...

ok, to sumarise, the laptop recognises the networking/wireless card (DWL-650+).

using IE, i put the IP no in and i can access the router/modem's control settings. in this i have input the username and password for my isp.

when i click connect, it says connecting and then connected. it seems to say connected indefinately, until i disconnect.

i therefore think that i am connecting to my isp.

the final issue is that i cannot get IE or Firefox to access any web pages. i have set "connections" to auto detect LAN settings etc.

it is a D-Link DSL-604+ router/modem and a toshiba satellite pro 4600 on XP Pro.

please help!
