who is using windows media edition?

Bear in mind Media Centre is designed to be used on HTPCs. The interface is designed to be used on a TV or HD screen, preferably using a remote control.

Apart from that, there are no advantages what so ever for using MC Edition over standard XP Pro.

All features of MCE can be reproduced for free using Linux anyway.

Media center is cheaper than pro, it doesnt support domains i think because of something to do with the media center bit.

Presumabnly an extender allows you to relay the tv to another location.
I would buy mce
1) its cheaper
2)if you get a compatible dvb card you can use it as a tv and vcr which it is rather good at.

media centre also seems bloody stable in comparison to xp sp2

seem just as stable as each other to me, not had any issues with either. its nice having a media centre pc sat next to your normal pc to watch tv while your gaming or browsing the net so you dont miss anything and as already pointed out works as a pvr as well.

How does that work? It is XP Pro SP2! The MCE part's just a bit of branding and another application. It even asks for the XP Pro SP2 Disc during the installation.

It's not really. There's been a Media Center Edition as far back as 2002 - it's not really a new idea.

I new that but hasnt the 360 only got a 20gig hard drive?
Hardly a media library is it?

I belive You can stream the media over a network so you can have as much storage for you media as you like, My uncle has this set up on his 360 and it is a really good add on, Although the machine it connects to needs to have media center edition installed.

You do stream media content from the pc to the xbox 360, the 360 doesnt hold anything on its hard drive at all, its all streamed from your HTPC.

At the moment you can stream Mp3's, WMV files, and use all the features of the MCE via your 360, you can also stream divx and xvids with a plugin to MCE.

My 360 is in the same room as my HTPC so i dont need to use the 360 as the extender but my mate has his in his bedroom and streams all video content from his pc in the living room to the 360 in the bedroom, enabling him to watch live tv, recorded tv, divx and xvid films in his bedroom.

Very clever and works flawlessly :)

Doesn't join domains, bad move.Don't mind running through a subnet, but not that happy when I want to have a main PC trying to link to an 360.
Just google for MCE and Domain. It's not that hard to get round.
