LOL

tbh.. social media is the thing now so new members probably aren't arriving like they used to. The existing membership, over time, perhaps gets less interested in high performance PCs, intelligent discussion of gamer girl bathwater and other serious current affairs in GD and of course the Pavlovian responses of some, mostly in the relevant SC containment threads, to any bit of news mentioning Trump or Brexit.

I'm kind of shocked after all these years there are only 140,637 members here. Even Guru3D only has 160,282 members and then Neowin with 371,576 members. Not exactly a lot after nearly 20 years.

Even Neowin these days is mostly dominated by political talk than tech talk that it was once known for.

Both of those will draw numbers heavily from the US, etc. though and also these forums don't tend to be an attractive place for some of the more trashy posting styles which probably keeps the numbers down a little compared to some other forums/social media as a whole.

Thankfully. I have lost far too many braincells on Facebook. It still baffles me that after 2000 years of evolution we still have people who seemingly have the intelligence of a tadpole yet are able to post on social media.

I remember Vonhelmet, he was one of the more confrontational types on here, couldn't be reasoned with.

EDIT: I see he posted today for the first time in over a year, bit odd.

We all have our blind sides when it comes to opinion, etc. but it amazes me how many people have no interest or ability to take onboard information and actively adapt or improve their understanding - I just can't imagine being like that. A lot of the reason I'm active here is the exposure to varying perspectives and opinions and referencing my own beliefs against that of others (even though I'm sure some think I don't take what they've said onboard).

Aye, I'm not the cleverest of blokes and I have the attitude that everybody on here knows more than me.

I remember there used to be a chap from the US who posted on here regularly and then disappeared one day. Was quite a few years ago but he was an interesting one, can't remember his username now dammit

Iceman the Pilot / Dr / all round superhero good guy?

Edit: Rah! That brought back memories of my friends cousin IcemanBops!! If anyone fancies a read.

Edit2: haha I remember us all ripping him to pieces when he'd say "yeh my cousins got a veyron", "my cousins got a this that and the other" and then boom it was all true!!

Iceman only posted in motors and only when he had a new car to post about. Correct me if I'm wrong!

Would then disappear for ages until the next acquisition.

Hmmm yeh true, I seem to remember him being here a bit more frequently than just when he got a new car though. He was a lurker with a passion it felt, who commented when he had information.

At one point we pruned users who had a postcount under a certain level and had not logged in for 12 months (I think it was).

We've also had a couple of server wipes over the years.

No, was a bit more recent than that - maybe around 2010-2014ish he last posted?? I realise this isn't much to go on!

Christ, that makes me realise how long i've been on here that you class 2010-2014 as "recent" and he was older than that!
