Software development doesn't count as IT? I better move my desk ino the hall way then. I think your missing a key part of the acronym there - "Information"

Maybe if all you do is Excel/Access VBA all day. Or scripting with the intent of automating system administration tasks. But then, these aren't software development. It's "hacky little program by someone probably shooting in the dark development".

I have no idea what you mean by that but if you develop software then surely you can be classed as working in IT, or am I missing something here?
 
I'd rather boil my own head than work in IT again, far too much stress for what i'd consider limited reward (25k), glad i got out of the game 2 years ago.

What about if you were writing code for an embedded microcontroller in a washing machine? I don't think that'd be classed as IT.

Is that not still Information Technology though? Even in a washing machine you're still dealing with some kind of data and using some kind of computer code to instruct a CPU of some kind to perform specific operations. Plus you have to using a computer of some kind to program it all.
 
I'd have thought these days most aren't. It's not that good jobwise in the UK any more. Plus I can remember lots of threads where people spoke of their relief to get out.
