Hmm ,so in the future we'll all be using the "Bank of Mars" as a tax haven, seeing as no government can lay claim to it? :p

Providing you spend less than 90 days on Earth, yes. Given the travel time that shouldn't be hard.

if you have the biggest guns you can be the owner of whatever you want... who will stop you from enforcing your claim?

Ultimately, call me a cynic, but who ever owns the biggest space lasers will own it.

Yup, so basically when America get there, they will own it.

Or we can look forward to some G-Police action.

Well theres a guy that owns the moon...

IIRC in the Cold War, the US and Soviets signed an agreement which said no country could ever claim any orbiting body within the solar system.

Therefore some chap said "OK, if no country can own it, I'll have it". And they all went "oooooh...... err......" and no-one could oppose him. Therefore he laid claim to it, and it's him that you buy pieces of the moon from today.

So I guess that either;

1) They ammended the agreement so that no-one else could lay claim to anything else.

2) Someone else has already claimed the other planets.

Whos to say we ( Humans ) would be the 1st to it, for all we know some alian lifeform might already be there.

We aint the only living species in this huge galaxy.

Another question: What happens if a alien race has already claimed Mars?

For all we know there could be a Star Trek like Federation in existance.

In 1980, Dennis Hope sent letters to the United Nations, the United States government and the government of the former Soviet Union, informing them that he was officially claiming ownership of all planetary and lunar surfaces (aside from the Earth) in our solar system. He even gave them the opportunity to respond if they had objections, and as crazy as it sounds, he hasn't heard a word from any of them since.

What do you reckon happended why nobody responded.

1 nobody actually took the letter serious
2 That nobody could actually stop him

But i dont understand why he didnt send a letter to our Queen i thought she owned everything :p :p
