****Who Remembers??****

do you remember the cheat code? It starts with MAG...

I remember portal-ing around using the code.

Never used the cheat with it:D

From what I gather, you had to start the game with a different load parameter, which gave you access to various cheats?

Another one of my favourites! Still got the disks for 25th Anniversary and Judgement Rites in my game collection

Well personally I don't think things have changed a huge amount. Every era has a few games with great graphics and crappy gameplay. The one I remember the most was "rise of the robots". Pre-release we were told to expect another SF2 or Mortal Kombat, but when it came out it wasn't even remotely comparible to the good beat-em-ups of the day.

Except the 8/16 bit era has a massive catalogue of great games that are still very playable today. Yes there was a load of pap as well, but these days, even the great games tend to get a single playthrough, then I can't be bothered to do another.

In modern times, releases of the good stuff are not that frequent due to the increased amount of work that has to go into developing a game. We were bombarded with new games back in the old days, and magazines would have several "Raves" or highly rated games every month. Now, everyone is tearing their hair out waiting for releases that are constantly put back! :)

BTW, "One Must Fall" (I think that's what it was called) was far superior to Rise of the Robots, and was shareware IIRC!

Also - Captain Blood was ace... Never did manage to find all the clones. :D

Just seeing the Road Rage vid made me think of Desert Strike and Jungle Strike on the MegaDrive too!

First ever Game on Commodore 64 - Hunchback.

One of the most memorable games - Tales of the Arabian Knights - noted for the first game to ever use software synthesised speech. The way it said "eeenterceptor sorftwurrrrr" was hiliarious (Interceptor Software)

My earliest memories. Jet Pac

One of the first four games I got for my Spectrum (48k - none of this hard plastic keys rubbish!).

The first was "Planet of Death" which was a text based adventure game, so not really suited to posting a video of! The second game I got though I remember watching with my mouth open - it looked SO AMAZING!

Watching it now, I will admit it may not be quite as amazing as I remember! :)

How has no one mentioned this gem?

And I always loved this

There were a few demos around (like the one in the OP) but I can't post them because they contain rudeness.

Not necessarily considered 'oldskool' but the fondest and earliest memories I have of my earliest PC gaming (even though I am only 17) was playing Command and Conquer Red Alert back in the late 90s. I revisited the game with the release of The First Decade and it ruined my cherished memories :\.

At least it has one of the best soundtracks for a game ever:

i used to skirmish on this game for hours on end.

Ahhh a retro thread :)

i'd fill this page and then some lol

I'll add it to sticky and a few of the others going on :)

Some classics mentioned so far

1 game that stands out from my early years was Turbo Esprit for the Spectrum

But 1 of my favourite games has to be Frontier: Elite 2, such a massive game on 1 floppy disk
