Who should you go, if you want a website made?

My advice would be :-

Do it yourself, it doesn't take massively long time to get into html and css for the basics, also it will cost you less for upkeep/maintenance of the site itself, plus you will be able to customise the site a lot better .

Unless you're willing to spend quite a bit on it which doesn't really seem neccessary given the information you have provided the money you spend would not be terribly worth it in my humble opinion.

Takign the diy approach may eat some horus of your time but it adds more skills to your repetoire should you consider a change of career or even fancy finding a new hobby at some point.

Any idea what £1000 would get me?

It's kinda like asking "How long is a piece of string??". ;)

I've done websites for clients where they have been crammed full of content/pages etc and charged £1k. By the same token I've also completed sites for clients that have been smaller, a lot smaller but more technically involved as far as the design and content goes.

Also depends where you go for it. Go to a large web design mob and £1k will get you "xxxx" amount of work.

Go to a smaller design mob or indeed a complete freelancer and £1k will get you an awful lot more, most probably. ;)

£1000 would most likely get you, from a freelancer,

Custom web design, blog implementation such as Wordpress or a CMS.

That's all you need if you want it to function the same as your current website.

As the others have said it depends who you go for. From me not very much, in fact I wouldn't even take the project on as it's too small but I know others who would do everything for that price (yes I'm a freelancer too).
