OK i'm hanging on, as well as AGP, but how long or what will make you take the next step toe Core 2 dua on PCIE...

For me,
a) 1 year on my 7600GT AGP with no follow up.
b) awesome performance from better chipsets.
c) and excuse to give my daughter my current PC!
d) no need for windows re-install!

I can counter u arguments:
a) gecube 1950XT, and any ati 1950pro will be approx 50% faster
b) not really, 15% max, cpu will give a mahoosive boost though, a core 2 duo would be 3 times as fast.
c) is she a heavy gamer ?
d) ehhhh what do you mean?

I was (1 week ago) on a p4, with pci-e and ddr2, i wanted a dualcore so bought a pentium D, reason was i wanted to be mroe future proofed for games liek crysis and supcom, and besides i got the cpu for 40 wich was imo a very good price even for old tech.

I'm still hangin on as you can see by my ancient rig. I want to upgrade to a x1950/20.1"WS combo for £265 to get me a bit more up-to-date. However, even with my ancient rig, I'm able to play BF2142 @ 1024x768 4xAA Medium Settings at around 30fps which isn't bad at all and looks very good.

I am currently on what is basically a P4 'B' in the form of a Celeron D 356 (512k L2 cache) running at between 4ghz and 4.3ghz. Coupled with a 7600GT it suits my needs (and screen resolution) perfectly for the games I play on the pc (mainly BF series).

I will 'upgrade' at some point but as I have a 360 as well I see no point in going all out on the pc, plus due to looking at buying a house and changing cars I don't have the spare cash to throw at a computer build.

Finally add this to the fact I would have to justify the expense to the soon to be wife ( ) and well its just not going to happen.

Also I only bothered to go for this build at the time as it cost me all in under £200. :)

P4 owner here!

I'm on a:

Shuttle SB65G2
P4 3GHz
Nvidia 128MB 6200
1GB RAM
250GB HD
2005FPW

Since purchasing my XBox 360 in 2005, I've ceased gaming on my PC. That alone was the sole reason for me upgrading all the time.

PC is used now for email, web, Office, mp3, DVD and the odd bit of encoding here and there. I find my current spec is more than enough for those tasks and "upgrading" would be just for the sake of it and a waste of money.

With the prospect of getting onto the property ladder in 12 months time, I can't see that spec changing. If anything, I'll probably end up selling it and just using my laptop.

My dads PC is still a P4 and dont see any point in upgrading it now or in the near future. It does everything expected of it and does it well.

Mine is a dual xeon ... I intend to upgrade in about 3 months.

Have a 2.4 P4 with 1mb of cache in one of my other machines. Awesome little chip! Running on an Asus mobo, under an arctic cooler and alongside a 9600XT 256mb. Plus it's in a 'cheapo' silver windowed case with two blue cold cathodes and lots of 80mm blue led fans. Old school baby! ;)

girlfriends machine is a 3.2GHz P4 (socket 478) with 1GB GeIL Value ram, 6600GT AGP :)

she's contemplating sometime this year though.

I've got a P4 Prescott [email protected] with 1GB DDR, a Radeon 9600 SE and an LG 19" Flatron TFT.

Im tempted every day when i surf this forum to purchase a new Core2Duo rig but im holding out. rather put that money towards a new A4 convertable as summer is just around the corner ;)

I am, got a 3.2 HT which i had as my server up until a short while ago (was my old main rig), now it has traded places with a pentium D and has the title of dev box.

Funnily enough, it gets more use than my laptop or main rig :D

I'm still on my old 2.4C until my new rig arrives this week.... mmmm, E6600 and 8800GTS for the win :)

Nowt wrong with having other priorities to throwing money at your PC.

Im still on a pentium 4 :D Brilliant chips.

Served me well...

I also have another pc.

Pentium 4 478pin 2.66Ghz
2Gb DDR PC2700 (2x1gb)
120Gb Seagate HDD
128Mb Aeolus 5900 Ultra.
15" TFT.
Logitech G25  lol (current rig out of action)

Still got:

As my main rig:

P4 3.4C
2GB Ram
ATI 800XT PE

Runs Warcraft great

the Misses has:

P4 2.6C
1GB Ram
ATI 9800Pro

My Spare is:
P4 2.8C
1GB Ram
ATI X800

As for the kids:

Each of them has a Pentium 3..YES THREE
with 512mb memory and a ATI/Nvidia Gfx card around GeoForce 3 performance level.

They are both happy as they can run MSM, use iTunes, Sims 2, Battle for Middle Earth 2, and even Warcraft (all though minimum settings).

Only only just persuaded my Dad to get rid of the Pentium2 400 I gave to him years ago! That served him well for typing, internet and scanning/printing and playing bridge.

Diddy

Not P4, but similar, slightly slower.
Im still using my 5/6 year old system, was a good spec at the time, lol.

Athlon XP2000(1.7Ghz)
MSI KT333 m/board
768mb DDR2100
Geforce 4 Ti4200 AGP gfx card
80Gb hard disk(ATA100)
17" crt

Still going fine, works well, never crashes/hangs, and can even play a few old classic games on full graphics. :)
As a few have said in this thread, if you dont need it for gaming, there really isn't much point at all in upgrading. I'd imagine my pc would still be fine for general use(net, dvd, mp3s) for another 3-5 years. If anything, a 320Gb hard drive wouldn't be a bad upgrade sometime soon.

My 2nd rig is an Intel P4 3.2GHz (Prescott), on an Asus P4C800 mobo, with 2GBs OCZ PC3200 Platinum Ram, graphics is the Asus X800XT, does what I want it too do very well, and reckon I'll still be using it for sometime, use it for web work really, or if 1st system goes on the blink. :)

Still running p4 as u can see from my sig and every single day i am trying to find a excuse to upgrade to c2d but only use my pc for gaming and web surfing and what i gathered so far that i am not gonna get big difference in performance in gaming to justify my spending on c2d.

Still on a P4 1.8A, 1GB DDR266, GF6200 (used to be a Ti4200 but that blew up :() :D

This PC is still going strong on its original XP install (dated February 2002) and serves me just fine for the small tasks that I use it for.

I'll buy a new one as soon as C&C 3 is out.
