So I turned my keyboard into a dvorak one and my head is seriously hurting and I can feel my eyes moving at a million miles an hour. I've also lost the colon button so I can't even make a sad face

I found my colon :D

also a development, I am starting to get better already :)

You could have just pooped the keys out and moved them :p

LOL, just realised i can,t do n e passwords FFS! If Dvorak wasn't already dead he would be soon! BYBY tipex i think!

It's funny, I chose my passwords to be random letters and numbers that're quick to type on QWERTY. Only once I'd got used to them, they were faster on Dvorak :p
Not to mention, it's pretty much impossible for someone to look over my shoulder and see what keys I'm pressing on a public computer because the keys I'm pressing don't correspond to the letters I'm typing :D

I've been using dvorak for quite a while, it's a nice layout, although I still use qwerty at work so I can touch type with both without any real issues.

I want to get the TypeMatrix 2030:

Although the blank one would be better:

I love QWERT too much to change. Touch typing is easy with QWERTY and I can type faster than my brain can think of the words.

One thing that does annoy me, is using Macs and 'normal' computers equally, I get muddled with the @" keys, amongst others.

Why don't you change your keyboard layout to full UK, rather than the "US with a £ key" that OSX defaults to?

This is the first time you could have predicted the outcome of a poll before it started. "The party always wins". ;)

I want the blank one :D well actually I want the normal Dvorak layout, but blank. What do you do about the £ sign as well? AFAIK there isn't one on Dvorak, leaving me with switching layouts quickly (Alt-Shift - takes under a second) and back, or using Alt-156.

Anyway, the important thing is I'm no longer the only one on this forum who uses it! :p

True, but not the actual figures involved - it was unclear how much of a majority QWERTY had!!

I did switch a while back and it was good, however I got bored of changing all my key bindings in games or having to switch layout before playing. I am now back to qwerty but would make the switch again if I ever got the urge!

To all those people saying "I'm too used to Qwerty" the actual layout of Colemak (and to a lesser degree, dvorak) is designed with the highest frequency letters in easiest reach of your fingers.

The distance your fingers have to travel to type a word is significantly less on average, thus you would be faster by changing.

Also the fastest typist in the world uses Dvorak ;)

Yep, I switched to dvorak to speed up, and it did feel more natural.

How did you learn though? I'm learning to type with all my fingers i'm slowly getting used to where the keys are, i think being a member here is helping, giving me a reason to type :p

QWERTY here, DVORAK makes sense in terms of letter groupings, but I'm so used to QWERTY that using anything else would take so long to get back to my even somewhat basic level
