Who wants a secret preview to the Antec Computex line-up?

More RGB junk. This RGB trend needs to stop. It's all tacky AF.

Well no, not really. All of the marketing and promotion is tacky AF because companies are demonstrating the full colour capabilities of their RGB products. That's when it looks like unicorn puke. When put to proper use, having full control of lighting and colours makes sense for those who want the aesthetics. Switch up your colours to match your hardware and theme the lighting and it rapidly becomes very tasteful and wonderfully executed.

What does need to stop is unnecessary RGB features on everything and show a modicum of decorum; RGB PSUs, cable combs, radiators and hardline fittings are a bridge too far, as is plastering lights on every conceivable surface like Gigabyte's Aorus line.

Plus you can just turn the lights off, nobody's forcing you to actually use it.

But now as almost every new product seems to include RGB by default, the price has to be increased to accommodate the lighting. This annoys the many users who won't ever use RGB, but are forced to pay extra cost.

we have this too

We're talking pennies for that many control chips and LEDs in bulk, and product prices aren't going up because of their inclusion. Look back over the costs of the mid to high-end boards, factor in inflation and silicon costs and you'll see it's all pretty consistent. So no, RGB makes absolutely no difference, and I'd argue that the only people "annoyed" and complaining about it are those with no aesthetic appreciation or comprehension to know how to properly use RGB; they just see unicorn puke demonstration patterns and think that's all it is.

Nonsense. Since when did RGB ever denote a nice aesthetic? There are many of us that don't want our rigs looking like Blackpool on a Saturday night, but still appreciate a nice looking build.

My point kinda proven then. It's not about RGB, is it. It's about the ability to form whatever colours you wish. So if you're only seeing rainbows then you're not seeing the bigger picture.

It may very well cost the manufacturer pennies to add these extras, but the final cost added cost will be much more than just pennies...

Anyway, I'll leave it there - this thread is about Antec's computex cases after all.

I'd be surprised if it does cost that much more to the end user. I did a rough look at the Asus Rampage Extreme series over the past 7 years and the RGB bling on the monstrous VI adds no cost. Of course you'd need a much bigger sample than just 6 boards from 1 manufacturer to see trends.

In any case (no pun), I concur; back to Antec. Oh look, more RGB :p

Nah mate, you're just talking pish on the subject. Simple as...

Yeah, 20 years professional design, 10 years lighting, installation and set design, 15 years system building and generally 35 years artistic background really does mean I'm talking "pish".

Well if you consider a stance counter to your own as "pish" then there's little point in continuing discussion, is there? If you can only see unicorn puke then that's your failing, nothing really I can do communicate further.

Ever heard of functional(ity) being beautiful?

Your "big picture" is lie used for hiding details to sell all those crappy gaming trinkets like headphones etc.

Why the heck would I want my PC to make colours?
Does it make it perform better?
Does it make it run cooler and quieter?
Does it make any parts more affordable?
It's all extra manufacturing cost, either increasing price I have to pay, or then causing corner cutting elsewhere.
