Who will get relegated?

Still think we're no where near out of it yet. I think if Wigan lose their game in hand on Tuesday we'll be safe 'cause I can't see them beating a CL chasing Arsenal. If they do win however I'll be looking more towards Newcastle, Norwich and Sunderland to bail us out because Wigan away on the last day of the season is never going to be easy. I'm also hoping we can nick something from a Chelsea side with one eye on the Europa League final 4 days later :p.

There's being positive and then there's delusion, you know which category you fall into

Still think its Wigan for the drop, even assuming they do beat Swansea the most I can see them getting after that is 3 points at home to Villa on the final day whereas I reckon Newcastle will get at least 4 points from QPR away and Arsenal at home. Sunderland/Stoke tomorrow night is huge for Wigan....

EDIT: Just did the match predictor and finished with Norwich going down on goals scored with 41 points the same as Villa, Stoke & Wigan - I don't expect that to happen in reality

From a Villa perspective, I'm seeing Norwich-Baggies and QPR-Newcastle as really crunch games.

I can't face going into the last game needing something, even a point, from master escapologists Wigan, and I can't see our defence standing firm against Chelsea's attack.

So, I'm thinking that for us to be safe we going to need at least one and preferably two teams needing unlikely final day victories. I can't see both Newcastle beating Arsenal and Norwich beating Man City, so that should do it. However, if both those teams get wins this coming weekend (along with a Wigan victory versus Swansea, which I'm pretty much taking as read about now...), I have Villa favourites for the drop again...

Still tense times, and I don't feel we're safe at all just yet.

33/1 for us to go down. Swansea will lose to Wigan, we all know that which leaves us really needing a point from the Chelsea game. If we get that, things would probably have to go horribly wrong for us on the last day for us to go down. If we lose to Chelsea it's going to be very tight.

Yeah, the odds reflect the fact that even just one of the results of mentioned going our way leaves us safe barring a fairly big surprise result on the last day. And, yeah, the bookies rarely get it wrong. Anyone who's done a few accies knows how rarely a sequence of individually-likely results all coming together can be. However, I can't help thinking that none of those results looked at alone does look particularly unlikely so it is really hard not to feel anxious still.

I am in two minds for the Chelsea game. I think we're playing nice football going forward at times, we have three forwards who are all scoring, and we can create chances against anyone, BUT... our defence is still very suspect. Bennett in particular is susceptible to falling to pieces under sustained pressure from skilful wide players, Baker is prone to screw up his positioning and can be full of individual errors in games where our back line is pressed, and Clark has at least one howler per game that usually leads to a goal.

I think there's too much soft belly there that probably suits Chelsea's play more than any other team in the league (as reflected in the scoreline at Stamford Bridge).

Wigan have to not beat Arsenal first, then we can relax!

AND Norwich have to beat Baggies, Jawdees have to beat QPR, Mackems have to beat Saints... (okay, or there then have to be some freak last day results)

I've been the most pessimistic dour miserable Villa fan over the past few months, but seriously - it's over, man, we can relax now! :)

No it doesn't.

Dave Whelan is a horrible little man.

I clearly meant that it needed wigan to win that game in order to prolong interest in the league. Now they have lost, it is unlikely that we will have a last day thriller. I would be watching all of the final games inthralled if there was something to play for, now I couldn't care less, as Wigan are all but down.

I wasn't suggesting that the Premiership needs wigan in it! :p

I would then love it if Martinez turned out to be a gay, transexual & a Communist, just so I could watch Dave Whelans face explode.
