Who will you be supporting this season?

I just want to say, I don't particularly want this season to be as bad from a petty argument perspective as last year, so let us try and keep it civil :)

Ok, so the theory behind this is simple, often there are many logical, and illogical, reasons why we support certain drivers, or teams. So who is supporting who this season?

I'm going to talk through teams etc... from my own opinion.

Ok so:
I like a team that can perform reasonably well, but also one that isn't almost expected to win. Given RBR recent constructors history, I therefore am not supporting the RBR team (although I still have huge respect for Newey and the team), and I'm ruling out all of the bottom teams (however will keep an eye on Max Chilton as a new upcoming Brit)

Starting from the bottom:
Williams - I like the idea of supporting Williams, because I quite like Frank, but the team that's there I have no particular reason to support (although will be intrigued by Bottas). Maldonado certainly should not be on the grid in my opinion.
Torro Rosso - Neither the team, nor the drivers hold any alure to me
Sauber - I like Sauber, they seem to be growing well at the moment, and coming back but that said, dumping Kobayashi last team was, I believe a mistake, and not something I like the idea of. They're out.
Force India - Again, I have no particular affiliation to the team. But, interestingly here, being British, I should have some support for Paul (especially due to some Scottish heritage). That said, I feel that generally over the last few years he hasn't exactly outdone himself in performance terms. I'm growing more and more disappointed in him, and so won't be supporting him as much as previous years.
Lotus - Grosjean I don't think even deserves his place on the grid this year based on last years performance. Kimi, whilst I appreciate what he's doing from a marketing perspective, it isn't really appealing to me personally. That said, I do still quite like him in some ways, and I like a bit of an underdog, which I feel Lotus are. The Black and Gold livery is also my favourite on the grid. Good points for Lotus.
Mercedes - I believe Lewis has good amounts of talent, and would like to see him do well. That said, I do feel he sold out slightly. I'm also not sure I particularly approve of Mercedes seemingly constant chopping and changing trying to build a world class team, but not really getting anywhere with it. They need to learn that an assortment of world class players does not make a world class team. Lewis will still get my support, but not as much as last year.
Ferrari - I like the allure of Ferrari. I'd like to see Massa come back a bit this season, he's still a bit cute in my mind. Alonso managed to change my opinion of him last year completely. If he manages to continue this season as he started last, I'll happily back him for WDC.
Mclaren - This is an odd one for me. I like McLaren, but I feel that their strategy screws over there drivers, and designers who often are great. That said, Perez does not deserve to be in the McLaren in my opinion (certainly over some other choices). Button is again a brit, so will get some support, and I want to see him royally screw over Perez this year. But his frequent complaints about balance bugs me. Again, he has some support.
RBR - Whilst I said I don't like a winning team, I still have something to say on RBR. Seb has started to royally annoy me. That finger for one. The arrogance he has is a bit annoying when on the grid. He's a great guy off the grid, just on it, I'm not a fan. I'd love to see Webber beat him. That said, Mark wasn't as competitive with Seb as I'd have liked last season. I want him to beat Seb this year, even though I doubt it will happen. Again, from a drivers perspective, I feel that Mark may be a slight underdog. Then again, I still can't decide whether he deserves to be in the (most likely) best car on the grid.

So, in summary, to be honest, I'm not sure who I'm supporting. This season the few changes have made it harder for me. I suspect I shall see how the championship goes, and support different drivers race to race based on performance. It's also far too early to tell with regards to cars as to who actually has a shot at the WDC, which again, adds confusion to my decision.

Well keeping it civil will never go well :p

On the support sides I am all behind Perez for a blinding 8 races then to start crashing. Want to see him do well though as he's been one of the better young drivers of the last few seasons.

I want to see Bottas and Williams get a win, with Maldonardo back to punting people off in shear anger, get banned and we can see someone else good turn up. Maybe a bit of a pot luck win again though.

Up front there is a little cheer for Kimi being back as with a more relaxed media spotlight over him he's a lot more entertaining.

Finally Fred to do what he did last year but with a better car would be nice, bored of the finger trudging about on his own up front.

Also want Sauber's car to be good again, like the team when they are Sauber (didn't like the BMW buy out).

Everyone gets a boo-urns!

McLaren primarily, LH at Merc. and Alonso and Webber to a degree.

Interested to see how Bottas and the 2 Sauber drivers get on, and hoping Chilton doesn't simply become a moving inconvenience for front runners.

Can you clarify British teams?
I suspect you mean Williams, McLaren and anyone else? (lotus and Caterham maybe)

Just, Sauber, Ferrari and Torro Rosso are the only teams without bases in the UK.

McLaren and Williams. I do not support Lotus, I've actually developed quite a dislike for the team.

I know its a bit of a cop out, but I've never really been a die hard fan following 1 driver or team. I've always been a fan of Formula 1 primarily, the British thing came from feeling like I had to support someone.

I would say I'm a supporter of good racing. Like last year, I don't like Vettel or Alonso, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching them battle it out over the year.

Same as always, British drivers. Since the mid 90's havent supported a team.
Then if they can't win, then who ever is least annoying or most deserving.

Who I'll be rooting for...

Drivers- Webber, Button, Raikkonen, Rosberg, Hulkenberg, Bottas.

Teams- Williams and Sauber. I really hope Bottas is good for Williams and I'd love to see Sauber and Hulkenberg have another good season, only this time together :p

It's always nice to see the Brits do well though regardless.

I basically only support Alonso so would like to see him do well again. Ideally, a tight fight right to the end with Mclaren, Ferrari, Lotus and RBR all qualifying within a few tenths of each other.

RBR - I've always liked the way they go about their business. Talented drivers, Newey, a bit of fun along the way. I've been supporting them since the start of the 2009 season and as much as I like Vettel he almost comes across as trying too hard to be liked. It's natural that everyone will hate the guy that wins, so he's trying to get people on his side. Wouldn't be overly disappointed if they had a clean sweep again though.

Ferrari - I have a feeling it's going to be their year. 2 near misses for Alonso with not the best car on the grid speaks wonders for the man's knowledge and ability. Massa's getting back to his best now too, so in terms of driver line-up they are super strong. Great for him to be there for another season. Probably the more likely team for me to be supporting this year, it'd be nice to have a change at the top.

McLaren - Supported Ferrari as a kid and through to 2007 and my first full year of watching F1 was 1998, back when McLaren were Ferrari's biggest rivals. I'd never be able to support them as a team but Button's a top bloke all round and Perez looks like he could be a contender if he settles in fast.

Williams - Looked very quick at times last year but I wouldn't support them. Great to see them improve on an awful 2011 though.

Mercedes - No.

As for the rest? I always like to see Sauber and Force India do well. Sauber because they always seemed to pick up a point or 2 in the late 90's/early 00's but never really challenged the top teams. Loved their turquoise/blue team colours - gorgeous car, and again the car looks superb this year.

Main team - Ferrari
Second team - Sauber

I will be supporting-

McLaren - Because they are British and the team I have always supported since I started watching F1. Though I think Button will do as well as previous years again and Perez will struggle so the team wont be in the title hunt.

Button - British and drives a McLaren 'nuff said. I want him to do well and as above I think he will do about as well as previous years. Though I do hope that McLaren focus on development for him more so the car can be more to his liking and thus he be faster.

Hamilton - British again, I am not one of these people who think he is zomg amazing but he is a very talented driver and I think of the best in F1. I don't think Merc will be up there this year so don't think he will be in title hunt but think he will do reasonably well and outscore Rosberg. I just hope his lack of winning doesn't bring on the tantrums of previous years.

Kimi - Who doesn't love the Iceman :D Brilliant to have him get his first win since his return. If Renault.... Sorry Lotus can provide a good car all season instead of being sporadic like last year he has an outside chance of winning the WDC.

Webber - Straight talking no BS Aussie, what isn't to like? Went off the boil for some reason but hope he has a good year again (like 2010?) Would be especially good to show RBR they have two drivers who could win the championship instead of all the attention being on Vettel.

Alonso - Disliked by some and I admit I have never really warmed to his media persona (obviously don't know if/how it differs from him personally) but a brilliant driver and would like to see him lift the WDC come the end of the season. You would have to be stupid to think Vettel and RBR aren't going to be at the top again (or very very near) but the way the grid lines up I think Alonso is best placed to stop Vettel picking up another WDC.

Williams - Always had a soft spot for these and been a shame to see their demise of recent years. Hopefully another good season.

Same as always for me McLaren and Caterham.

Can't say I support of their drivers this year though. Any team kit I get will be the generic stuff not driver stuff.

Team - McLaren as always regardless of drivers, also like to see williams do well and to some extent Merc(mainly for lewis' sake)

Drivers - Lewis, Button and Alonso(never thought i'd hear myself say that, but he really won me over last season), i'd also like to see kimi do well however, less of the cringeworthy media stuff he's been doing recently

As usual McLaren and Williams plus all British drivers. I've also been a fan of Alonso, sure he comes across like the car is always crap and shouldn't be near the front... ok to be fair he's right there, but I honestly put his talent to that of the old Schumi, maybe even better on the road side of things just not on the mechanical side of things. ;)

I'm going to have to see the first race to see where I stand of whom I think will win the WDC/WCC but I honestly hope that McLaren can finally break their bad luck streak or even at least have Williams finally getting up there, I just can't see it happening though.

Maldonado when keeping a level head (quite rare) is scarily quick and outperforms the car all the time, but when things aren't going right for him he just ditches the thing, if he can stay patient this year then I think that Williams will be in at least the top 4.

I do want to see Senna back though and hopefully in the Force India. He drove consistently last year which was great to see, he just needs to sort out that qualifying problem of his (reminds me of Button eerily enough).
