WHOA! Burnt CPU pins!

IIRC the Anadtech article related to suspected faulty Foxcon sockets.

I see from your pictures that yours is a Foxcon socket, I would suggest RMA with a note pointing to the Anandtech article.

I believe that is what he has been doing.

What a nightmare. They reckon the CPU is ok - I'm sure their extensive testing of post=ok covered that one. As for the motherboard, they are sending this back to the manufacturers as the board is 'damaged'...

Well I need a motherboard before Christmas, so have bought another one! They'll ship the motherboard and my CPU back together - hopefully they haven't mashed up my CPU in the process.

Then it's a waiting game for a refund/replacement of the old board.

Oh, it's all money money money, and the time of year! Classic.

Anyway, gotta keep my chin up, could always be worse :D

I saw a thread about this issue on XS a good while back now.

One guy had the exact same thing as you, only one contact pad and socket pin was burnt like yours, and there were a couple of guys who had several groups of pins all burnt out, and their CPU's were ruined..

You might want to have a read through the thread, as there are plenty of others out there that have had this problem with LGA1156 systems..

Like someone else mentioned already, it seems to be something to do with the Foxconn CPU sockets that is the cause of this problem, Gigabyte seemed to have swapped over to the Lotes socket for the new P55A boards, and I'm guessing they changed their sockets because of this very problem..

Oh man, 5.2 Ghz and his mobo still lived to tell the story lol.

Oh Davey, I notice there is not a PM option on these forums, but I wanted to ask ya what you are doing tomorrow (Saturday). You can maybe show how me fast the beast you have is lol. I've decided on the X58 UD5 to go with the other components I have.

My msn messanger addy scottym27 at hotmail.com

Been like 13 years since Kevin, Paul, Jason you and myself had a drink down at the hotel pub ( Oh I ended up working with Jason a few years later after the welding and fabrication place we were at lol. I'll fill you in with rest when I see ya, oh I still remember how to weld though I much prefered the spraypainting. ( I still use that metal table I made, comes in handy lol).

New motherboard - socket pins checked, rechecked, checked again. CPU inserted, removed, pins checked, rechecked. CPU inserted again!

*Prays to the computer gods*

Workshop so cold the Arctic MX3 seems to be setting hard!? Installed CPU cooler, memory, graphics card and all cables...

Booted up and into Windows (reactivate windows? activation failed?? - had to activate over the phone). Experience index reads 6.0 for graphics?? Reinstalled video drivers, WEI graphics 7.7 - check...

Everything seems ok so far - obviously not going to celebrate too soon! But it is my birthday tomorrow! :D

Please let this be a lesson for buying 1156 sockets - please check your pins BEFORE assembly!

Christmas wishes to all here at the OcUK forums. I think I would have lost it without all the help I've received from you fine folk. Mince pies for all! :D
