hey guys,

thought id make a thread about who's upgrading to socket 2011 when its out and what are you guys upgrading from ??

me personally i want to! but i've got a feeling its not going to be cheap at all!

so yeah who's going to splash the cash then ? :)

im really looking forward to the prices, my 1156 system is doing fine, but i cant help the looks of these 2011 socket boards!

I want to but my needs aren't such that I can justify what will probably be a huge price tag. I imagine I'll be getting a Sandy Bridge (or Ivy Bridge) rig as my upgrade from AM3.

I'm potentially going from a P45 + Q9550 but I'm thinking of holding off now. I was thinking EVGA SR with two of the E5-2650's but after seeing list prices... I think I'll maybe still to the Q9550 for another release cycle.

What's tipping me atm is that 4GB of RAM isn't quite cutting it anymore, but DDR2 is soooo expensive!

Me probably, not sure whether to wait a month or so for a better price but doubt the prices will drop a lot uintil at least Ivybridge appears for 1155 and not sure if that will be a direct competitor for all-round ability anyway.......but could be wrong.

System is 1156 i5-750, over two years old but still performing brilliantly. The new 2011 and associated mobo's bring features allowing me to jump to the latest tech. Although I also like to see value for money, I'm also sometimes willing to pay extra to future proof for as long as possible. Think it'll easily last me 3 years or longer if later Ivybridge processors use 2011 boards so could just replace the chip potentially in a few years although history has taugh me it's best to replace with the latest mobo when buying a new processor after a few years for improved performance another few years of motherboard design brings.

i want to, it depends on the state of my bank account at the time i decide to take the plunge. Would be coming from q6600 if i did. Figure ive skipped enough releases by now to "justify" an upgrade

I will be taking the plunge next year to 2011. I am going for a very red theame in my next build which means a rog board not looking forward to the cost but been saving for a whaile now maybe will treat myself for my birthday. will be coming from x58.

I have been looking at going from X58 - X79 but from what i have seen atm i am not that overwhelmed so we will see.

I future proofed my last upgrade so that it will be ready for the ivy bridge proccesor and pci-e 3.0.

My board is Asrock Z68 extreme 4 gen 3 with i5.

It will need to be quite a big performance boost mind to make me jump. I am over the moon with what I have now :D
