Who's doing a PhD?

I'm lost? I thought you were being getting £30,000 after tax?

How has this changed to £14,000?

Currently I get close to 30K GBP after tax, when i started itr was closer to 14K. the bbiggest difference is the fact that the exahcnge rate form CHF to GBP has rocketed in my favour.

The exchange rate was 2.6 francs to the pound in 2006, now it is more like 1.6.

Just making a point that you can't compare what I eanr in Switzerland doing a PhD compared to the UK (let alone, in the UK you don't spend 15 hours a week teaching). I can only lcompare myself to my collegues and friends with simialr experience in simialr fields.

Aha, I see! £14,000 is a much more sensible sum of money for a PhD student. The £30,000+ figure was utterly ridiculous!

Well, if I saved every penny and transfered it to the UK... unfortunately got bills to pay.

Besidies a beer cost £6. Exchange rates really skew the perspective
