I'm going to. It will be about £140 before shipping. Hopefully no customs charges, but if there are then I think it will be worth it for 480p (not sure if europe's getting that - GameCube anyone?)

I'll just import all my games too, which will also be cheaper.

PLUS November 19th!!

I am! I haven't bought a UK home console since the SNES now that I think about it. Mostly due to release delay or none at all, 50/60hz issues in the past, stuff like 480p support. It does end up cheaper if you don't get hit with customs charges... helps if you have family around the globe too :)

Dont see the point, is it really worth it for a relatively small saving plus the hassle of having to buy imported games?

Its not like you would be waiting ages for the EU release either.

Import tax might sting you.

I know, I mentioned that in my post.

I think the added benefit of 480p, 2 weeks earlier, £40 saving on the console providing no customs charges and cheaper games forever is a big bonus!

They can, 100%, don't understand the need to import apart from the games.

That's good news, that europe get 480p this time round.

I still think there are advantages to importing. Cost mainly (providing no charges). The games will be cheaper too.

O yeah, you do make a valid point, apologies if my "can't see the need" appeared curt.

I'm 50/50 on the cost though, still reckon you 'may' get stung with the import tax, it's a chance you'll have to take and if you don't then you've the advantage of having the console earlier and cheaper.

The downside of course is the games you'll need to buy will also have to be imported and if the 360 is anything to go buy, I'm sure there'll be occasional times when several titles come out at once, and that bulk buy also ups the chance of getting the bad-draw when it comes to the import tax.

But fair play to ya, if you're gonna do it go for it, just make sure you've come back here with piccies and thoughts before you get stuck into the gaming! :p

The machine may, but we don't know whether the games will support 480p. I wouldn't be suprised in the slightest if various titles that support progressive in the US and Japan don't in the eu.

I don't care about the lack of HD, I just don't want the image to look like poop. 480p on a decent tele, particularly a crt, looks very decent.

I agree with everything you just said.

I'm still on the fence whether to import or not. Where I would buy the games from are very good though, I have never been charged yet.

Decisions decisions.

i would bet the money i saved to buy a wii that the uk version has 480p

I was thinking, how come they aren't dishing out the info about everything we're wondering about?.. i.e. 480p, bundled cables. They didn't do a very good job at revealing all if we still have questions :p

That's one of the reasons i'm a little worried. Nintnedo are hardly going to say 'oh btw, sod all pal wii games are going to support progressive and the games you download via the virtual console are 50hz with nasty borders' a few months before release.

I'm planning on getting a Wii. Almost pre-ordered but common sense (read: gf) got the better of me.

I'm going to Japan in January and with all the info avaiable after the release , plus benefit from the bundles and a generally lower price (3 months after release I'm expecting some kind of cut) I'm pretty sure I could get a good deal. Already started saving vigorously (it's teaching me to save for a house ;) )

Anyways does anyone know anything about how I could bring one back if I did pick one up over there? I imagine it would get battered by baggage handlers and I don't know that I could bring it back as hand luggage? Bit of a noob when it comes to this stuff, but its to good an opportunity to miss.
