Who's really at fault here?

Don't be a ****, you said you didn't look and you've told him to get it done privately. Now you're going to pull the rug from under him? That's a really nasty thing to do IMO.

If I was him and you got arsey, I'd tell the insurer you hadn't told them of an accident and then take a hire car too while it was done, meaning a nice insurance bill to declare in future.

But tbh.. i all ways wait for the person ahead to park fully in a carpark... This driver is obv old and of a generation that cant drive

Why is it a troll post?

Its true that most Elderly drivers were from a generation that simply didn't care about how well people drove before letting them drive.

Not to forget that there are the ones out there that can hardly see yet still persist to drive and stuff what anyone else thinks.

For all we know that chap could have cataracts... and not able to see past 5 feet... Plus his manners or simply having none in a car-park, he should have waited for the driver in front to finish parking before trying to drive behind him, The reverse lights are bright, only a blind rude fool would ignore them.

Oh look a car in front of me is parking, Oh look its Reverse lights are on... I KNOW I WILL CARRY ON AND LET HIM HIT ME CUS I JUST DONT CARE.

My father is 70 and I am fairly confident he would outdrive 95% of the people on this forum today, road and track, both quicker and safer. Today he drives a 3 year old 911 at a pace that you probably have never got close to yet and safely with a clean licence and insurance record for his driving life. You realise that most 'old people' (let's say late 60's early 70's) to a 25 year old started driving in the 60's, the era of Clark, Rindt, Stewart, McClaren, Brabham, Hill and their ilk, not 1902 right?

Spot on. Yes the old chap probably should have waited until you had completed your manouver but still, you shouldn't have reversed out without checking it was clear to do so. This could have easily been avoided by both of you but as he had right of way it's down to the OP in my opinion.

250 odd quid is a very lucky escape..

Have you ever actually been to a supermarket car park, because it certainly doesn't sound like it? At busy times there are dozens people walking in the car lanes, pushing trolleys, pushchairs etc. and cars trying to squeeze past them often on the wrong side of the lane.

You can call these people whatever what you want, it doesn't stop them being there. Personally I have a few choice names for people reversing out of spaces without looking.
 
Once you were in the space, the guy would have been perfectly entitled to go past. So from his PoV it's a no fault accident. You just reversed out without looking, self admitted.

You'd be boned if he got insurance involved.
 
It would go 50/50 like most car park insurance claims surely. But for £250, just pay up!
