Who's your favourite chef?

I have loads of favourites, but all for different reasons...

Rick Stein - Probably the easiest to watch, and very passionate

Jamie Oliver - Hate him, but his food does look very nice (early stuff)

Richard Corrigan - Always seems very at ease with his cooking

Nigel Slater - Hate Him, but like his style of cooking

Michael Caines - Brilliant passionate chef...all done with one hand!

Ken Hom - Can watch his shows for hours and not get bored

Cant say i particularly like many of the younger chefs such as Aaron Craze & Valentine Warner, i always think their passion comes across as a bit false.

i would have to say Keith Floyd, watching his programs as i grew up always made me want to cook

now days it Michel Roux Jr

use to like Gordon Ramsay but he just turned into a complete dick to like him now

Is he the big fat bald guy? Think he was on Perfect... today but only saw a little bit of it and didn't catch the person's name.

Yeah that's the one, also been on great british menu.
duck with triple cooked chips and gravy, Crayfish scotch eggs and then just darn good normal dishes like stew and steak and the like. Drool..

nigel slater and jamie oliver

I like the chefs who sort of make real world dinner options that are not too fiddly and dont take too long - so that you can make them every day without taking all night

also pet hate is chef recepies which use lots and lots of ingredients in tiny quantaties (especially fresh ones) e.g a pinch of fresh corriander leaving the rest only one or two days before its all soggy and dead, obviously it tastes great but makes the meal expenisve and wasteful

In no particular order:

Heston Blumenthal - wife absolutely loves him (near stalker level of appreciation there - has all his books signed. Was very friendly in real life when we briefly met, or was it captured, him:)). Love his TV stuff. Books are spectacular and we've tried a few of the 'perfect' recipes plus the pea and ham soup with excellent results. Remarkably unpretentious given his world standing - no dress code in TFD says it all. Hinds Head is excellent, but regrettably yet to visit TFD or DBH :(.

Michel Roux Jr - Wife in love with him too . Really like his TV persona and again been lucky enough to briefly say hello and he was extremely friendly. Helps to have a bubbly and cheeky wife with you in these situations - having MRJr command his staff 'extra truffles' just for us was pretty awesome!:)

Gordon Ramsay - Surprisingly to myself I love all the US Hells Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares stuff (wife's fault getting me into all that) - great for comedy value! The Maze was great, though I wonder with all this TV stuff how much of himself exists in his restaurants nowadays - have I ever even had a Gordon Ramsay dish?

Raymond Blanc - Love his passion and energy on TV. Not been to the Manoir yet but have been very impressed with the Brasseries. Been several times and always top quality - no faults at all.

Gary Rhodes - TV legend and great 'everyday' books. Another guy who's a real gentleman in real life with time for his 'fans'.

Jamie Oliver - Can't help but find him annoying on TV, but some great books and I've been pleasantly surprised with how good the Itialian restaurants are on the few occasions we've been (though I have also read one or two negative reviews).

Man I feel hungry now!:)

I happen to really like Glyn Purnell - friendly Brummie, likes a joke, cooks delicious looking food :)

I tend to dislike chefs who can't stand the pressure of a kitchen and just come across like complete bottomexits - entertainment or not, you appear to be a breast.

Also not a fan of big chefs who slap their name on restaurants that are clearly sub-standard to what they serve in their 'main restaurant'. Yes Raymond Blanc I'm looking at you.

Lots but all for different reasons,

Gordon Ramsay, a Brit knocking out food in the classical French style.

Ferran and Albert Adria, the forefathers of molecular gastronomy.

Heston Blumentahl, see above.

Rene Redzepi, this guy along with his team forage around the grounds of his restaurant everyday for ingredients.

I could list loads to be honest!

On the other side of the coin I can't stand Nigel Slater. Just how slow and boring are his programmes?!

I'd agree about his TV work, but his books are great - in the written prose, he obviously has a great passion. Also, any chef who dedicates entire chapters to mash potato gets a thumbs up from me :p

Take Jamie as a comparison, his books are just cold, methodical how-to manuals, whereas Nigel's are descriptive and warming :)

I like Jamie, use his books often and actually like his programs. Not sure if he is the greatest "chef" though, but his recipes are good to follow and his ideals are exciting.

Not been mentioned yet (maybe nobody likes him) but Marcus Wareing he was a student of Ramsey until they fell out (allegedly) he runs some top restaurants seems like a nice bloke and his cook books make great food very simple to make, I think after some of the Jamie books his "How to cook the perfect..." is my most used cook book.

I'm a big fan of Raymond Blanc and Michel Roux Jnr (the two best meals I've ever had were at their restaurants although that could change when I go to The Waterside Inn in July), but I also really like Tristan Welch and Marcus Wareing, and I could probably listen to Michel Roux and his soft french accent for hours :).

Rick Stein - Really love his shows and book, so so so watchable.

Keith Floyd - Was excellent.

Two great travel chefs.

Nigella Lawson - Great big lovely Juggs

Two greedy italians is very good so far, the dumpling/gnocchi happening this weekend for sure.

For me, its Raymond Blanc or Marco Pierre white. Whilst being technically very good they don't overdo it and just make really tasty looking plates of food that you can't help but want to tuck into...both also have a touch of the mad professor about them. There's some youtube videos up of Marco in the late 80's and they're brilliant...except he clearly has a disdain for a TV crew bothering him when he's trying to cook!

Sugar, didn't think of her. Maybe because when I think of food I don't think of her, but when I'm thinking of food with..... ;)

Knock yourself out! (Or one out, if you will.)
