Why after 4 years is Windows 7 such a pain with networking

You said you had no software installed now you say you have AVG Firewall and AV?

Uninstall that trash....it's TRASH.

Does not matter that it's disabled/turned off, UNINSTALL IT. The amount of systems I have seen that have been TOTALLY BROKEN as a result of things like McAfee/AVG/Symantec products being installed, they don't even have to be running to break things.

If you want a firewall use the Windows built in one, or better yet do not use a software firewall and use a router instead.

If you want AV use MSE.
 
Well that was useful. I do know how to enable and disable firewalls etc. How come I can connect with the Apple I'm writing this message on and the Windows machine is sitting their stubbornly refusing to connect to the internet. I any case can't be bothered as everything I've got is crap. The ISP is crap, the Anti-virus is crap, Hub is crap, I don't know what I'm doing Sorry lads I dented your windows ego and your manhood but Windows is causing this as I have just attached a friends laptop with XP on it and it has no problem

Things to try

Try running an AntiVirus (Windows Security essentials is free and works well)

Try clearing your settings by opening the CMD prompt (press the Windows button and type 'CMD' and hit return)
This will open another black dos window.
Just type ipconfig/release followed by ipconfig/renew
You could try flushing your DNS as well I suppose. ipconfig/flushdns

Check your firewall and also try physically plugging your PC into the hub to see if that makes a difference.

I have in the past also heard of Apple devices kicking Windows devices from home networks, so you might want to try having no Apple devices connected just to check.

Appart from that you might want to try growing up a little and stop acting like a troll
 
You need to uninstall the firewall and any other modules as pointed out, not just disable it.

It's pretty obvious that there isn't a general problem with networking in Windows 7 to this degree or else we'd all know about it.

It's also quite clear that the connection to the internet is working, as other nodes can reach it. And the Windows 7 box in question can still see other devices on the local network.

The problem is with the internet access on that specific machine, which is what the graphic in the network and sharing centre is telling you. It doesn't mean 'untrusted'.

So rationally you would suspect a problem with the machine configuration. Malware is a possibility, but the most invasive blob of code we know is running is AVG and this product has a history of causing connection problems. You need to uninstall it, restart your computer and see if that makes a difference.
 
I had the same issue and it was like that with Be-Unlimited Broadband and the same when I switched to BT infinity, it drove me crazy having to reset the router everytime. The laptops in the house would connect fine as well as phones etc but the home pc wouldn't.

Finally sussed it out it was the built in Atheros gigabit lan port that was causing the issue, just bought a cheap sub £10 network card and never had the problem since and that was over 12 months ago.
 
Have you tried getting the latest drivers from Qualcomm. Seems to be a common problem with your network card.

Not a fan of Gigabyte boards for using Atheros LAN chips, as suggested above try new drivers or a different LAN card. If you have a USB wireless dongle, then use that for now and see if it still drops.
 
After the OPs last ranting post I have to say he's either an Apple fanboy, a troll, very stupid (he's been told to try and uninstall AVG, but he digs his heels) or all three.
 
Sorry I've not replied but pretty much everything in the Windows machine is substandard so I thrown it all in the bin. Goodbye and thanks for the ideas. Reinstalled Windows XP on the same setup with the crap AVG, the crap Gigabyte motherboard, the crap drivers, the home hub and since Sunday I have flown on line through vatsim for 16 hours and been online all of that time. Never lost the connect once! QED problem solved.

Thanks for that who tried to help. Much appreciated. The finger to those who just said everything in crap.
