Hi all , Im trying to overclock my Intel E6750 2.6ghz to 3.6ghz on air ..

Im using the ASUS pk5 premium mobo

I have been happily sitting at 3.4ghz for a few months now no probs but as my temps only get to about 55c on both cores I feel like i can push it more...

so I set to 3.6ghz and set voltage to 1.4v

I keep failing prime95's blend test after a minute or so 1st or 2nd worker gets an error and stops FATAL ERROR hardware failure

Im monitoring temps and voltage as its running with HWmonitor, everest and cpu-z.

Temps arent high Im getting 40-50c before crash but the voltage says 1.35 or 1.36 and I set it to 1.4v in the bios.. why isn't it running at that voltage? I thought the voltage dampener in the bios may be holding it back so I disabled it.. im still not getting 1.4v .. is that why prime is failing?

my comp isn't completely failing I'm still @ 3.6 GHz typing this

any thoughts would be appreciated

It's called vdroop. Google it :)

Mine is currently set at 1.375v in bios but is actually 1.336v under load in windows at 3.6ghz.

Ok I did, people seem to suggest setting higher voltage settings to compensate , I think I'll set the voltage at 1.45v and see it that drops to about 1.38+ fingers crossed

progess report .. ten mins into prime95's blend test and voltage running at 1.4v temps at 55c with hwmonitor.

no fails and no bsod ... yet :)

Ill try n stress test for a few hours

Progress report. 1 hour in and all fine, temps ranging from 50-51c to 55-56c

big shout out to the arctic freezer 7 pro ... maybe old but its doin a fine job here

I have had this pc for about 3-4 years now and I just bought some arctic mx-4 thermal paste for the system in my sig.. I may apply some
to my Freezer 7 pro and maybe get even lower temps ... mmmm

progress update ... 3 hours in went to make a drink came back and pc was re-starting .. not sure why? temps weren't going over 57c after 3 hours

Ill try another stress test I thought I'd nailed it but we'll see

Progress update:

3 hrs and 20 mins seems stable enough highest temp still 56c even played a game of starcraft 2 while prime was doin its thing! wasnt exactly playable mind but it tried!

Looking good at the mo :)

well I just got BSOD but I had been running prime95 for over 4 hours I was copying files and starting a movie in media player and I crashed .. I feel if I had left prime all night and done nothing else on my pc it would be ok Ill experiment that tonight! for now I'll just leave it at 3.6ghz I think

Progress update: Ran prime95 overnight (8hrs) and no errors and max temps 57c, not bad at all :)

plus my 8800GT up 55MHz (core) 137MHz (shader) and 30MHz (memory) stock voltage

next project is my new i5 2500k but its fine for now lol I'll overclock that when it needs it
