Why AMD Shouldn’t Ignore the Internet of Things

I don't carry a phone

I don't even know how to use most of the things on a mobile phone and I want to keep it that way. It is nice when people can not get hold of you.:D

I have never sent a text message either.:D

You're not helping my image of you as a hermit :p

Greg periodically trawls the net for these articles that make AMD look bad and takes glee in posting them. This isn't about GPUs either. Also Motley Fool shorts AMD to make money.

Says the OCN troll. Anyway, it's not like he's making the figures up....

Didn't LtMatt get his name changed to LtNvidiaMatt for similarly posting a negative news article about Nvidia? Looking forward to "AMDGregster" appearing soon! :D

"Gregamdster" sounds better :p

Come to think of it, the recent posting style of Greg really is all that different from Matt back then. I was surprised that one of the mod single Matt out and change his name, despite the articles and his post did not directly attack Nvidia. Should those threads/posts be classified as "trolling or baiting", it was questionable as the new threads/posts that Greg are now made, and the nature are very similar, if not the same.

Matt is at the neurotic end of the scale though, enough so to land him a roll however small within the company lol :D.

Best not to go down such routes

The code will fail and it will cause accidents, the question is, is it more often or less often than a human?

Viewed as a whole then sure, that's the important thing. However, you need to convince individuals it's safer than them personally driving - which for many people won't be that easy. Saying on average people are rubbish is something most won't argue with, but many people think they're way better than most (some of them may even have some justification for this view)

Given the terrible security most stuff manages I'm not very keen on the IoT idea myself.

Yeah, if the toaster thinks it's getting internet access to browse for pr0n then it's got a another think coming!!!! :D

The real question would be, can it cook the pictures onto your toast? Something to help get you up in the morning... :D

While Matt's love for AMD was no secret, he did actually frequently provide help and support for the community and help AMD users to trouble-shoot solving problem whenever possible. Greg on the other hand I don't really recall being that actively helping Nvidia users, though I would love to see him end up in the same similar position as Matt but for Nvidia, so we would see less negative articles toward the team that they are against but more help and support for the end-users- win win situation for all, especially considering that Greg would most likely love to work for Nvidia :p

I take glee in posting all of the news articles and threads that I do. I wonder if I posted a bad news thread about nVidia, would you pick me up then? Ohhh wait, I have in the past and no you didn't. In fact, I don't ever recall you posting anything negative about the OP in any of the bad news threads involving nVidia.... Hmmmmm.

The Result? Profit Drop!

As a consequence of inefficient design and relatively low performance, AMD has to sell its eight-core FX series processors (315mm2 die size) for up to $245 in 1000-unit quantities. By contrast, Intel sells hand-crafted Core i-series "Sandy Bridge" quad-core chips (216mm2 die size) for up to $317 in 1000-unit quantities. Given the fact that both microprocessors are made using 32nm process technology [and thus have comparable per-transistor/per square mm die cost], the Intel one carries much better profit margin than AMD's microprocessor.

Very true that.

Good old Greg! :D He also takes glee in posting in threads that show AMD in a negative light too!

But I don't hide behind anything and have no issue claiming I am an nVidia fanboy. That doesn't mean I want to see AMD go under or see AMD gamers having problems, it just means I much much prefer nVidia to AMD and nothing else.

You don't wish them to go under but take glee is showing them in bad light...

Right.

U WOT M8?

You are seeing a sentence such as "I like cake" and then reading it as "he dislikes everything except cake"

A very strange way of looking at things but not uncommon for people here (and other forums in fairness).
